Sauder Shoal Creek Writing Desk, Diamond Ash finish

5 stars for this desk. Package arrived a little roughed up but all contents were in perfect condition.It was an easy assemble, took about 3 hours. No missing parts. The desk is very sturdy and had no problems moving it around with two people. To those who thought it was flimsy, probably did not tighten the cam / dowels properly. Mine is solid as a rock.That being said, I just love this desk. Simple yet elegant, great price and arrived on time.Edit 12/20/2018: After 1 month taking away 1 star. The top of the desk is starting to sag and all I have on it is a laptop.

I don’t usually review things but I think this is a good exception. First off I give 1 star, 1st is for the shipping and handling that these guys really care. 2nd is because it is a nice looking desk and that’s it. Why I gave 1 star? Here is why. Once I assembled the whole thing, including the drawers. I tried to stand it up from the floor. This thing start to crack, so disappointed, I had extra care to pick this up and cracked. I don’t recommend this desk to nobody, even if you see a nice desk, what really matters is how strong it is to move this thing around the house and find a good spot for it. So what’s going to happen when I decide to move out and I have to carry this thing out. I will tell you what is going to happen. This desk is going to end up in the garbage. So don’t waste your money as I did. I am going to keep it while it last and then to the trash.

We ordered this desk as a surprise for my daughter, and my husband spent many (7?) hours assembling it. The pieces didn't go together very well and he had to really finesse them. Some of the pieces looked bowed, as if they'd been stored somewhere standing against a wall instead of flat, and one of the drawer fronts was chipped. Finally, after way more time than it should have taken, the drawers did not actually fit into the desk. He tried realigning the glides and everything he could think of (he's very handy). The bottom drawer simply would not close at all. It was a nightmare.We called Amazon and at first they required us to disassemble the desk to be refunded, which would have been impossible because of the way it was put together. A very kind Amazon customer service representative stayed on the line with me and talked with multiple supervisors until we were able to just send in pictures instead of having to disassemble this whole thing and send the pieces back--so thankful!But we are pretty turned off of all Sauder products and wary of ordering something that needs to be assembled again--our representative was so great but he told us the standard policy is that it must be disassembled in order to be returned to the seller for refund, even though we bought it directly from Amazon.

This is a decent piece that I received in a very nicely done packaging. Since this is the first time I assembled a furniture in my life, it took me a long amount of time. For the same reason I cannot comment if the assembly for usual or difficult. You would definitely need two people to assemble the furniture for sure.I liked the design and overall look of this table. It is very elegant looking. A warning - this is a two drawer piece as opposed to three drawers. The top two drawers make one piece. Leg room is sufficient and I am easily able to put my desktop and laptop on the hutch itself. Since I use a docking station, the laptop on it dangles 1/4th but its not an issue. I use the desk space to keep my keyboard and other peripherals. I also want to comment that the piece which says black is not black rather dark espresso in color which matches the rest of the furniture in my room.Because of the cam and dowel system in this furniture, the screws don't show up at all. This is a very smart system and I really liked it. For the same reason, in case you miss to assemble a part, you would need to open the entire piece.Overall, I liked it as a good decent purchase. Its not a family heirloom since its made of particle wood but I am sure it will run smooth for years.

I'm very frustrated with this desk. I had the thing totally put together, and then I went to move it and the top of the desk popped off. The cam screws popped off, and I was unable to get the top back on since they had expanded. And then, the side fell apart. It was almost comical how this desk was falling apart before my eyes. I ended up using gorilla glue and L brackets to secure the top onto the desk. It was super sturdy, but somehow the desk got tightened up too much and then the long drawer wouldn't even fit it. After an hour of struggling with that dang drawer, I was able to shove it in, but now it barely slides and knocks up against the other drawers. It's such a mess! I am totally regretting this purchase.

I do love the look of this desk. It feels sturdy. HOWEVER. I am giving it four stars for how laughably impossible it is to put together. It felt more like a hobby project than a desk assembly... I was reminded of my brother assembling model airplanes when I was little... except it was much bigger, much heavier, and much more complicated. I also made a pretty nasty mistake when I was putting together the pencil drawer. Considering the hours this took to assemble I consider myself the manufacturer... so I don't blame anyone but myself for that particular issue.But. Despite the maddening complexity of this desk, it's really a lovely product. I'm glad I purchased it. Already assembled, I'd expect to spend significantly more for a desk of this quality. Unassembled, it's a bit of a bear.Oh, and the instructions do appear to be missing steps. I'm not going to swear by this considering by the time I got to the end I was exhausted and completely sick of looking at screws.... but I'm pretty confident it's missing steps. Luckily, it was intuitive. But still.

The desk is well made and goes together fairly easily if you carefully follow instructions. Does not have a finished back which is OK if against wall but a bit cheesy if it sits in middle of room.

I love the desk. It was easy to assemble, and fits perfectly with the rest of the Sauder Shoal Creed furniture I already have in my office. Its low profile makes it ideal for my office.

it was exactly as I expected It to be..my brother put it together in a couple hours....No problems what so ever....very pleased with my choice

Love the look of this desk. However, when it arrived, the bottom portion of the drawers were missing and some bolts were the incorrect sizes. It scratches extremely easily with light use. As well, the drawers do not sit properly and are difficult to slide. I do not recommend this product or ordering furniture through Amazon
