Deja Vu - 50th Anniversary

Much greater than I remembered
Well, it is finally here, Deja Vu on vinyl again. What a collection this anniversary set is, truly great packaging with the album in one side of the gatefold quality cover and the 4 cd's in the other side . The album cover is as the original finish accompanied with a booklet describing the making of the album with the trials and tribulations of four such talented artists. Lots more photos of the time included. The vinyl is solid and flat with great quality, so nice to hear the crisp sound again which was missing when originally placed on CD. What I have found though is listening to the superb quality and clarity of the CD's. They sound amazing, especially the disc with the demos, it is like they are in the room with you. Stills 4+20 is very moving and David's voice so clear on Song with no word and Almost cut my hair. The clarity of the whole set is to be appreciated, I feel the original material was treated with respect on this production and all should be congratulated. All in all a worthy addition to the CSNY collection , one I have waited for for some time. I can see this set receiving many plays. Thoroughly recommend to CSNY fans but also anyone who appreciates good music produced so perfectly. Would loved to have given it more than 5 stars. Lets hope for the other missing albums to receive the same care and attention.

Deja-Vu in all it’s glory with very little Neil.
The title of my review may appear to be strange but I believe Neil Young has put another spanner in the CSNY works.I read online that Neil Young had pulled a number of proposed tracks from the outtakes list.Pro Neil fans claimed they were removed because they weren’t good enough yet the tracks were good enough to appear a few weeks later on a list of proposed Young archival releases.Tracks he never allowed to be released were suddenly deemed good enough when it came to his own archival releases. One classic example is “Pushed it over the end,” which he pulled from the 1991 CSN box set but released in his own box set when it suited him. This is a review of the 50th anniversary box set and what a glorious set it is.The discs sound sparkling.I compared the new cd of the album to a version I bought in the early nineties. The difference in sound quality is amazing with the new disc sounding deeper and brighter. The outtakes, unreleased versions and alternate takes are a treasure trove of undiscovered gems. We’ve heard some before but the majority are new tracks which add a fresh depth and understanding to the album.

We have all been here before ? 50 years ago
If any album highlights what CSNY wasted on the way this is the album, who would have thought that they'd never reach this highpoint as a collective again. Carry On, Deja Vu, Almost Cut My Hair and Country Girl remain highlights but Stills 4+20 is an acoustic masterpiece. We are also treated to Nash & Young singing 'Birds' an outtake from the Goldrush. Shame we had wait all this time when some of these unreleased and different versions could have and should have been on earlier CSNY box sets.

Stunning Anniversary Reissue.
If you are of a certain age you probably have fond memories of this album. I certainly played it to death when it first came out. This 50th (!) anniversary sounds spectacular and the added out takes and demo tracks are all well worth having. The vinyl is well pressed and plays with no unwanted surface noise. Bravo.

Sublime
A true classic which has it all. I could ramble on for ages, but, honestly, you’d be better off giving your ears a treat than reading this.

Almost perfect
As classic album anniversaries go, this is the ideal format: quality re-issue on vinyl, all extras on CDs, history context book and attractive 12'x 12' bookshelf package, all under $100.I bought this one because it was recommended to me and Amazon UK had it on sale.Normally, I would give this a 5-star rating. My only disappointment really is the vinyl pressing: it sounds like it was manufactured by Rice Krispies.I won't return the item as it is costly and too much of a hassle but quality control is an issue here.

Beautiful package, great sound!
This is definitely one of those classic albums you want to own and this is the version you want to get. The vinyl sounds absolutely Beautiful. Same with the CDs, no wall of sound here! There is plenty of unreleased material and alternate versions of all your favourite songs. The packaging is durable as well as extremely pleasing to the eye. I am only a fan of the first two albums and this is the jewel in their crown. There is not a bad track on the album. You get the original album on LP and CD. The other three CDs are an alternate version of the album. A CD of outtakes and a CD of demos. If your a fan of 60’s rock I don’t see how you can dislike this album!

Rich collection from CSN&Y's peak period
Great collection of demos, outtakes and alternate versions, despite the lack of NY material. The outtakes are not better than the songs that made the final cut but give a great view of 3 great songwriters as they reach their peak. The alternate versions are interesting, especially an extended "Almost cut my hair" with a nice guitar work-out between Stephen and Neil.

Imperdibile
