Q: I need to mount this with the aluminum pipe vertical. Will the vent will remain closed til airflow opens it or will gravity cause it to remain open?

I'm not 100% sure but my guess is that if the vent were slanted a few degrees such that gravity would help, the vent would close when dryer is not running. I would be concerned about it keeping out rain if exposed to sky.

Q: To the seller... I have a pre-existing 4.5" diameter hole in a wood wall. Is there enough trim around this item to cover that size hole?

the plastic outside should be more than enough.

Q: Are there holes so it can be mounted with screws if you wanted?

Hi Jennifer,Yes, actually 2 sets of 4 mounting holes which the picture doesn't show. One set of 4 holes in a square, 5-3/4" apart on the outside edge of the cover. The second set of holes is under the flip up plate, also in a square, 3-1/2" apart (these can be used if you want them out of sight - and have enough wall material left around the hole to attach to) This is an excellent cover and very handy when using a drill mounted lint brush.Cheers,Randy

the lovers open when u have airflow. you fully open it like in the picture to clean
