Q: Can I use this Kettle to boil water on an electric or gas stove?

I bought this kettle to use on top of my wood stove to put some moisture into the air. It works quite well for that, and I believe that is probably what it was designed for. I wouldn't suggest using it as a tea kettle as it does rust inside when water is left in it, and it doesn't whistle. For the price, and for what I am using it for though, it works great!

Q: Could u pls tell me how wide it is at the widest part?

It would measure 10" at the widest point.
