TilleyUnisex T3 Wanderer Hat (Khaki, 7 3/8)

Great hat for desert and beach
I took this hat to North Carolina/OBX in July. Temps were in the low 90's and humidity was 65%. This hat was comfortable, breathable and held strong in the wind. The rear cord held the hat in place and the chinstrap was not necessary. The brim is flexible but stays straight in 15+ mph winds. Other people on the beach had their hat brims flapping in their faces and this hat did not move. The hat fit was spot on per the Tilly sizing video.Hat washed up really well. I have washed it three times in the last week. I wore it in the ocean and it was covered in salt. I wore it the pool and it was covered in chlorine once it dried. A mild warm water rinse was all that was needed to reshape and clean the hat after the ocean and pool. I agree that this is a great, well designed hat. It also dried very quickly, I left it inside to dry and outside in the sun (North Carolina) and outside in the shade (Arizona). I live in Phoenix, AZ where the temps are 111.F degrees today. This hat works well in humidity and dry temps in AZ.

Made in CA or outsourced, it's still a high quality product with a lifetime warranty.
I own a few Tilly hats. The oldest was made in Canada, the newest in China. However, the quality is spot on with each of them. Without reading the label, I highly doubt that anyone could differentiate where the hats were produced.I've read dozens of reviews where people are primarily focused on where their hat was produced, rather than the actual quality of the product. For the most part, those same reviews also reflect negative opinions as to the cost of a Tilly hat now that they are produced overseas. "The value of anything is only worth what someone is willing to pay."That being said, I don't mind spending $75 - $125 for a quality hat that's going to last a lifetime. Sure beats spending $25 - $50 on a hat that lasts a season or two at best. Try tossing a cheap hat into the laundry several times a year. I'm pretty certain you'd never wear it again after the first wash. Tilly hats don't shrink and their vents don't rust when washed. You get what you pay for.

Great hat, and great service
This is the 2nd Tilly hat we ordered. The 1st one was several years ago. It was a birthday gift for my husband. We ordered a 7 1/4 size in the neutral color and it was tight, but fit. After it got wet, or washed, (can’t remember, it’s been years ago) it no longer fit because it shrunk. Honestly, I’m sure we measured wrong because after all this time, the one we ordered was a size 7 3/4 in the khaki color and it fits perfectly. You can get 2 fingers under the hat like they suggest for the proper fit. It’s a win for me as his wife because the smaller one fits me perfect! We ordered this on Amazon, but it was sent from a company called “OutlandUSA” and it’s a authentic Tilly hat with the same 10oz material, and we couldn’t believe we received the hat the next day! They sent it first class, and the box said “Extremely Urgent”! Inside the box it had the invoice with a note thanking us for our order, with instructions on how to return the hat if we wanted to and also gave their phone number and e-Mail address ([email protected]) and if there were any issues with our order to give them a call. NO, I AM NOT BEING PAID FOR THIS REVIEW!! I just thought the great service should be shared from this company, and the hat is still the same awesome Tilly quality!

Nice casual hat, but sizing and QC can be a challenge
For a "silly Tilley" hat, this is perhaps one of the more casual, less "silly" looking options. Cotton canvas is fairly thick, but not super tightly woven and I generally don't find cotton hats any hotter than thinner synthetic options in the summer but YMMV. The enzyme washing process gives it a more relaxed, unstructured look than the regular T3, and the black hardware also looks far better than the bright brass of the regular T3. Yes, you could age a regular T3 to look similar, but it would require many washes to soften the structure the same way and that shiny brass hardware would take years to dull down. The problem with the enzyme washing, however, is that it seems to play havoc with the sizing. I ordered three hats -- two in 7 1/2 (Amazon wouldn't do a price adjustment after the price fell 20% overnight after my purchase so I returned one right away) and one in 7 3/8, which is my actual hat size, based on head measurement of 23". One of the 7.5 hats fit the way Tilley suggests it should -- ie. fairly loose with an ability to fit two fingers between hat and forehead after a slight pull on the front of the hat. The other 7.5 hat had clearly had more washing done to it because it looked far more faded and as a result it was like a vice clamp on my head -- far too small. The 7 3/8 hat fit a bit snug at first but soon stretched enough to loosen it to comfortably snug, which IMO is how a hat like this should fit -- not so loose it falls off your head when you lean forward, but not so tight that you feel it all the time. In that sense I disagree with Tilley's hat sizing advice. There's nothing worse than a hat that's too loose, sits low, and tends to fall off without using the straps.Beyond the apparent gamble on sizing that this pre-washed version of the hat seems to entail, I also was not overly impressed with the quality control. Crown height varied between hats by up to a half inch (one hat had a crown height that was 4" at the front and 3.5" at the back), brim width varied between all three hats by about a quarter inch (one hat had clearly unequal side-brim widths), and eyelet spacing was also a bit haphazard with each hat having at least one eyelet a bit out of alignment with the others. Overall not a huge deal I suppose, but it just adds to the feeling that you really need to buy multiples of the same hat to find one that fits properly and is put together well.

Love it
I love this hat. The brim is big but not too wide. The brim is floppy, has a touch of hold but not much. The hat is made of very thick cloth, and well made, should last forever.

Sizing
If you are reading reviews, you may be looking for info about how to size your Tilley hat. I’m convinced that this is something that just goes along with buying a Tilley. No one will be able to tell you exactly what to do. Tilley says they are meant to fit loosely. Internet blogs suggest a tighter fit. You’ll be sitting there with a tape measure and 3 browser windows open, getting frustrated. I can’t help with sizing. I’ll tell you that the hat itself is great and worth the trouble of figuring it out.

Nice fit
It was folded up in the package so it has a pretty bad crease in it. I’m hoping it will iron out. Other than that minor issue it is good so far.
