Assassin's Creed: The Essential Guide

The PlayStation is, we are told, for the players. This book, however, is for the fans. The perfect gift for any Assassin's Creed obsessed relative or loved one, or just as a treat for yourself, for once the 'essential' epithet is well deserved in my never humble opinion. As usual, the quality of this official Ubisoft item is beyond reproach. Everything from the glossy board covers which are, in turn, protected by a glossy dust jacket (with artwork by Helix) through to the thickness of the highly illustrated pages within just ooze professionalism.I was surprised at the size of the book, being guilty as charged of perhaps not reading the description as well as I could have. I was expecting a piggyback/prima guide book size, I got a behemoth of a tome. I haven't measured it myself, but the description does actually state that it is 25.1 x 2.3 x 30.1 cm in size. That equates in reading terms to 216 great big and beautifully printed pages.Written by Arin Murphy-Hiscock, who was part of the Assassin's Creed Syndicate writing team support, the book itself is a mixture of character biographies, plot outlines and historical backgrounders. Although not marketed as an 'Assassin's Creed Artwork' title, it could easily have been. Such is the beauty of the illustrations within, from the full page portraits that accompany the character biographies through to the weaponry images and historical timelines.I bought this book for myself, and I am not disappointed. Sure, it isn't cheap but you get what you pay for. If what you have paid for is a must have Assassin's Creed collectable and at the same time a thoroughly good read that helps round-out the plotlines from before the beginning (I think the chapter on the precursor civilization fits that bill nicely) then you absolutely get it.If you are a fan of the franchise then I would advise you buy this book while you can, as the price is certain to soar once it starts selling out as new stock.

Beautifully illustrated and loads of information very pleased with book. Great gift for anyone interested in this.
