Deck Spindle Reinforcement Ring with Bolts for Some John Deere
K**M
Great product to extend life of expensive mower deck.
Great ring to reinforce the part of the mower deck that's most likely to be rusted and damaged. I used this and the included bolts with Stens 285-851 Spindle Assembly and everything fit in perfectly; the bolts were easily thread into the spindle as well. This is a very solid piece of metal - should extend the life of the rather expensive mower deck! I also cleaned up some rust, primed and painted (Rust-Oleum Automotive 249275 12-Ounce John Deere Farm Equipment Spray, Yellow) the damaged parts of the deck to keep it as long as possible. All in all, a great product. And remember, if you're replacing the spindle and getting this ring, it comes with bolts so you don't need to buy the original ones. Otherwise, you'll need these: John Deere Original Equipment Screw #GX22456 (Qty 4)Recommended when changing out your spindle!

New life for an old mower
So, we keep thinking the old John Deere mower is down for the count. Not so. The mowing deck on these mowers eventually tear up. These rings are really tough and reinforce the area around the spindles. We just rotated a partial turn and re-drilled the holes. Includes self-tapping bolts. These are really nice and well worth the investment. I expect we will be able to keep using this mower for years now. A new mowing deck is out of the question anyway. We decided to replace the spindles at the same time. Very happy with the results. It cuts like new.

Great Solution, Buy them and install them BEFORE you need them
A great solution to a known flaw within the mower decks that this fits. No matter how well you clean your mower deck, and even if you add an aftermarket deck wash fitting (now standard equip on newer models), the steel mower decks rot right around the spindles, plus it's a stress point, so I would consider installing these in a mower deck that has not yet failed...as preventative service. These rings help locate the spindle in the proper place on the deck, and once everything works, you can tack weld (or finish weld) these rings to the deck, then seal/paint/undercoat, whatever. Sure beats trying to buy a new (or even used) deck anywhere else.

This should have been original equipment; I had the ...
UPDATE: Over 2.5 years later and the original is still going strong. I just installed a second ring where another spindle froze and had to be replaced, even though the deck was still in decent shape on that one. I used the same installation method as below. This should have been original equipment; I had the center spindle on a John Deere D170 with only 120 hours of service loosen and wallow out all four original mounting holes, an issue you will see in several reviews, and did not notice until the deck belt started slipping off repeatedly as the center pulley moved out of place and started to wobble. I used a wire brush to get to bare metal, beat warped metal back into place, and then used some JB Weld to make sure this stayed in place (with a sheet of cling-wrap over the new spindle when installing so it would not be bonded on as the JB Weld oozed as I tightened the installation bolts, then painted the surrounding areas of the deck with rust-stop primer and then yellow Rustoleum. Since then I have mowed the yard twice as well as the trails and old logging roads on my property without it shifting from where it was supposed to be. If installing with a new spindle, use one of the originally installed bolts to tap the threads on the new spindle first.

RECOMMENDED Kit
A perfect fit for the thin JD deck. My deck was in poor shape and had previously been repaired poorly, but these spacers are robust and worked well. Bolts were included but it is a different thread cut from the self tapping screws, so you would need to buy a tap if you used their bolts. THEY SHOULD OFFER THAT OPTION AS AN ADDED KIT TO MAKE A ONE POINT PURCHASE.

Saved me from having to buy a new deck
Perfect fix for wallowed out deck bolts. Easy to install and made my deck way stronger. Great price compared to what the shop would have charger me. I recommend this for sure

If you have a Deere you MUST buy these
Our John Deere LA105 deck was SHOT! The tag line should be "nothing rusts like a Deere". The main problem is on the lower grade mowers... they put some really thick enamel paint on the body and deck. The paint holds up but lets go of the surface and rust builds up that you aren't seeing until it's to late. The mower started making crazy loud noises after 3 months of summer mowing and when I took it apart, rusted out at the spindle mounting points. These do the trick! Took these and the deck to a welder, he welded them in, fixed the mounting point issue, hosed it down with Rustoleum and hopefully she'll live a couple more years. If you have ANY John Deere riding mower... put these on when you buy it and take the deck off EVERY year and inspect it and check it. The screws that are included are not self tapping but they are longer. If you already used a tap, these screws are longer, same threads and will add the length you need to securely mount the spindles again.
