Physiology of Behavior (12th Edition)

I needed this textbook for my Behavioral Neuroscience Psychology Class, and I am so glad I got it.

I have used Carlson in my teaching for years. I bought this copy for my TA because the new publisher policy is to only make the text available online instead of allowing me to have texts to hand out to TA, and retrieve, each semester. The publisher cost me money.This new edition has not been thoroughly edited before publication. There are figures without figure numbers. There are figures out of order. Figure references in text are frequently buried in text rather than at the beginning or end of the paragraph where they would be easier to find.The new edition has substantial improvements in organization of some of the text. It has added significant sections. It has also added things that are not treated well - resilience, allostasis, come to mind.The publisher's PowerPoints with text is missing several figures. Fortunately, these can be found in publisher's PowerPoint of just the figures. PowerPoint text is not organized hierarchically by topic on slides.As usual, I do not find the publisher's data bank for test questions to be valuable.

This book has been extremely helpful with her Physiology Psychology class.

This book has a lot of nice color graphics right when you need them. It also has a lot of sentences to further explain something right when the reader would need it. The fact that by Edition 12 they've worked out a lot of the kinks shows. I found a 1980's era edition of this in a library, and psychology as a field has gotten a lot better in the past 3 decades.

It is a great book. I'm a PsyD student and found the book very reader-friendly & educational in terms of explaining the mechanisms of disorders and normal nervous system. I've seen psychiatrists become interested in this book & purchasing it because the book simply educates the reader about the most sophisticated mechanisms in a very easy way.

This book was used for an online (self study) undergraduate class. The material is intense and complicated enough as it is, but to have vocabulary words not bolded and defined until several paragraphs later is challenging to learn. I frequently had to reread paragraphs to fully understand, only to discover that the concept was detailed and explained later with a better explanation. I also found it useful to read the summary first and then move to the start to read the sections. This book needs a lot of editing. There are lots of consistency errors in introducing concepts.If you have a choice to read a different book, I would recommend the other book.

Exactly what I needed for my class, i like the loose leaf textbook to put into a 3 ring binder easily fits into 1.5 inch to 2 inch binders. Quality is very good and nice, easy reading formats.

Good book! Was ordered quickly and in amazing condition. If you get the paperback version be warned it is the global edition, for me it seemed to have the same information but it is on different pages than the hard copy so if your professor uses the hard copy you'll have to make sure you get the right page numbers.
