Exceptional quality for the price!
I purchased these for two reasons:1.) The earbuds I was using prior to these began exhibiting distortion in the cord, and became unusable.2.) I recently pulled the trigger on Meze's 99 Classics ($309) and have been finding every reason to listen to them when I get home -- HEAVEN ON MY HEAD!!!My instant love for the 99 Classics helped me trust that the 12 Classics would be worth the 80 bucks, and they most certainly are. Meze are a small team of passionate, dedicated professionals, and it shows in their work. Just check out their website for a few minutes -- mezeaudio.com -- and you'll see how they put a little extra love in everything they do (behind-the-scenes videos; in-depth descriptions, etc.)I have only had them for a few days yet, but I feel like I already have a good feel for the 12 Classics. (I listen to music on my ~45-60 minute commute to/from work, so I get a good amount of listening time and I need something reliable; but I also want something enjoyable, being the music lover I am, and I'm excited to see what else these little guys can do).I've been listening to a lot of electronic/dance lately (deadmau5 and a few others on mau5trap), but I've also squeezed in some different flavors of rock and I can say with confidence that the 12 Classics immediately represent Meze's dedication to quality. The bass is deliciously warm, yet punchy & accurate, performing in all the ways it should (at least in my opinion), especially with electronic music; mids are perfectly balanced all around; highs are clear, never harsh. Great instrument separation and a pretty decent soundstage for ear buds. Overall, just a beautiful, well-rounded sound!(NOTE: No portable amp/DACs here -- I'm just using Google Music on my Nexus 5x phone. All of the music I've listened to thus far with the 12 Classics has been plenty loud and clear, though I do need to turn the volume up most of the way in order to get it there. Do they need an amp/DAC? No. Do they benefit from one? Of course they do -- any decent headphone/earphone will. I may look into a portable amp/DAC/music player combo in the future).(ANOTHER NOTE: One of the other reviews here mentioned that they will perform best when the walnut casings are warmed up -- I have not yet heard them in a cold environment, but I also live in LA so I don't think that'll be a problem).Aside from sound quality, they are also quite comfortable -- I've been trying out the (included) Comply memory foam tips, which I've never tried before. Some say they cut down on the bass a little bit, but I don't really hear it. To my ears, the bass (as well as mids & highs) are still just as great with the foam tips, as far as I can tell. They also come with several sizes in the usual silicone tips, including a "double-decker" style (sorry, don't know the correct term) which provides a perfect seal and thus even better isolation. The in-line remote works just fine for play/pause, though I think a 3-button (previous/play-pause/next) model is always preferable. (A double-click will go to the next track; I think triple-click is supposed to go to the previous track, but that doesn't work for me). Haven't used the in-line mic yet, and I probably won't use it much at all, but I'm sure it's fine.My only complaints: cable could be just a bit longer (maybe a few more inches); and the cable is a bit stiff, but that may just be the price to pay for well-protected wiring. Some users may also dislike the microphonics, but that can be alleviated by running the cable under your shirt, or with the (included) lapel clip.(Although, I still haven't figured out how to safely snap the lapel clip onto the cable -- I'm afraid I'll damage the cable while trying to shove it into its tiny clip...)I normally don't care much about packaging, and I find it obnoxious when reviewers go on and on about it; however, I must say that the packaging for the 12 Classics (displayed, appropriately, in the shape of Meze's signature lyre) is very much appreciated -- once again, a perfect example of Meze showing just how much they care about putting "a little extra" into everything they do.All in all, I'm very happy with this purchase after only a few days. I'm excited to "break them in" (although I really don't think they need it) and see where Meze goes from here. A truly unique, exceptional set of earphones from a group already disrupting the audiophile community!

My New "Every Day's"
I have been an audiophile for...a really long time. I have substantially reduced my purchase of headphones, IEMs, and earbuds over the last year as most of them are just a tweak or re-work of previously released versions. Improved this. Improved that. I'm at a point where I want new and/or "different" sound signatures and I have to say Meze did catch my attention. Not knowing much about Meze I read and watched a lot of reviews on various Meze products and I liked what I read/watched. Different. Cool.Like a lot of you, I have my favorites when it comes to earbuds, headphones, IEMs, etc. I read and watched a lot of Reviews of various Meze products. Meze's headphones cost $$$ but the in-ears were very affordable.I read Meze is a HUGE fan of using renewal sources for their products. I noted, right out of the gate, the wood on the in-ears was very well done. Hmmm....different. Wood? I like the sound wood housing creates. I've had a pair of wood cases earbuds from "House of Marley" for years and I love them. I was thinking of replacing them with another pair but the Meze seems to have filled that "hole". Wood, to my ears, just creates this "natural sound" I enjoy. I also feel it helps with the bass a bit.I ordered a pair of the Meze 12 Classics V2 with the intention of using them with my FiiO portable DAC/AMP and my phone. I really didn't know what to expect, to be honest. I had never listened to a Meze product before.I popped them into my FiiO DAC/AMP and fired up my phone and started to listen to a bevy of tracks. Rock, some POP, a little Country, and a couple of Jazz/Blues tracks, and I really liked what I heard.Remembering the price point, here are my thoughts:Bass - Really well done. Not "boomy" or "neutral". When a bass line is called for, it's there. You feel it. Nice.Mids - Again, earbuds so I was not getting my hopes up to high however, I was pleasantly surprised. Adel was playing and she sounded very good. Now, in some "busier" tracks the vocals are absolutely in the mix but not as forward as say a headphone could provide. Headphones just have more room to work with but still, for earbuds, pretty darn good.Treble - This is where I had to let them burn in a bit. Out of the box, a bit bassy. I am a believer in a 10-20 hour burn-in for Dynamic Drivers. They need to "loosen up" a bit. After letting them sit overnight with music playing through them I revisited the earbuds in the AM. Ahhhhh...better. Now I was hearing the merging of the bass-mids-treble. A very nice, warm, but fun-sounding earbud. Most excellent. I like these!Driveability - Phone, DAC/AMP, whatever you have should be fine. I was listening to them on my One Plus with a small adapter and it sounded quite nice.EQ - Responds well to EQ. A couple of apps on my phone have EQ's and I use them.Opinion - Music is a very important part of my life and I am a bit picky when it comes to how sound is presented. I have my taste, like a lot of you do, and I have to say I like these a lot. They present the music, to my ears, really well. Very "fun sound" with an above-average soundstage (no joke). I also feel the price point Meze is asking for these earbuds is a bit low. I have IEMs and earbuds costing at least $40 more that don't sound this good.Bottom Line: these are staying on my desk and grabbed when I head out. Meze did a good job with these.

Very comfortable! Bon Scott and the aliens approve!
When I was twelve I had what can only be described as an Unfortunate Learning Experience with the scariest girl in school that involved a lot of apple sauce, her socks, and more angry ducks than I had expected would show up. Ever since, I can only fall asleep listening to the soothing tones of Bon Scott era AC/DC. I know what you’re thinking. How could that possibly be a bad thing, right? I mean, what’s not to get excited about nodding off every night to songs about large testicles, hefty women of questionable morals, and venereal diseases? Well, turns out the aliens don’t think this is such a great thing cause AC/DC makes them stupid. Seriously. They come at you with their rays and probes and strangely alluring vibrating things, but all you have to do is play some old AC/DC and then all they want to do is play air guitar and pretend to be Angus. Not only is it embarassing to watch, but it can be a real obstacle when they stop by for The Experiments and, in all honesty, I’d much prefer they be very focused on what they’re doing so that there’s never a repeat of the Let Me Put My Love Into You misunderstanding. That just wasn’t any fun at all. There was a lot of damage to their equipment so they didn't like it either. I had to apologize for six months after that. So it was decided that from then on I would only listen to AC/DC in bed with earbuds. I have tried many over the years. Some worked. Some... didn't. Especially bluetooth. I don’t think anyone could have anticipated that. Anyway, my point here is that these earbuds are really comfortable because they’re so light (try different tips!) and Bon Scott era AC/DC sounds pretty good with them.

Eccellente IEM!

Solid everyday earbuds, but could be better
Sound quality: Crisp highs and "shy" lows, mids seem to be a bit elevated. There's obviously minimal soundstage but it's expected from this drive. Quality also defers by which rubber tips you're using so give all a try.Design: Nicely built but the one missing feature is a physical identifier to the Left/Right earbud, the only marker is a small embossed L/R on the back but it's very hard to see as it's black on black.

Big bold sound with excellent fit and finish
I first saw the 12 Classics on the head-fi forums as it was doing its review circuits and was immediately intrigued about them because of its design. Given it's relatively cheap price for a higher end audio product I just kind of bite the bullet and brought them on a whim. My first impression were very good as the earphones came in a very nice packaging with a solid and thick cardboard which slid open to reveal the earphones displayed kind of like the Meze logo. Though not necessarily related to the worth of product itself, this does show that the company seems to care about their product and thinks of them as something special. The earphones comes with a very nice and compact hard storage case and three single flange and one double flange silicone tip along with a pair of Comply tips. Overall a pretty good package considering the price. Now on to the earphones themselves. They are made with a mix of wood and aluminum and have excellent fit and finish which I didn't expect at this price point. There were absolutely no marks on the wood parts on my pair and the parts where the metal meets the wood were perfectly finished. The wire is on the thicker side which gives a sense of security along with the well implemented strain reliefs. My only gripe is the wires do have microphonic when worn down but that goes away when you wear them with the wires around your ears.In terms of the sound, I would describe these as kind of V shaped with a somewhat emphasis on the bass. At first the earphones seemed a little boomy but once I put some hours on them the bass seemed to simmer down. The bass is not bad but they do take a bigger role than a more neutral iem like the Vsonic GR07. The top is also makes itself known when the track calls for it but never felt any spikes like I get from GR07. Because of its V shape the mid are drown out a little which is more noticeable with female tracks. Don't get me wrong the mids are there and they are clear but the bass and treble are just more present. Overall I quite like the sound of these especially when I am looking for a more fun sound signature. Whenever I want to have a smooth listening session I grab the 12 classics since they are just so easy to listen too.
