Q: are chemicals used to clean or treat the wool or leather backing? If so, which ones?

Dont know. But the pelt is very soft suede. Feels natural so maybe search hide tanning. We said machine washable. Haven’t tried it yet. Mine is white and been using it for 6 mos now ans still clean. When I cat sat for my sisters cats. One loved to lay on it and groomed it like her fur. Doubt she would have done that if anything was on it

Don’t know. Mine is white. What I did a search a while back on that breed in New Zealand I believe. They dye the living sheep often in support of favorite team etc. try a quick search
