Q: The description says "the hook method doubles the leather thickness..." does anyone know what that means? (please answer only if you know.) thanks.

The hook method doubles the leather thickness because when you thread the leather through the hook, there's leather on both sides of the hook. When you pull the leather through the hole, the leather folds over the hook thus more than doubling the thickness of the leather.

Thank you for your question. The needle is 5" long.

Q: Holes on the edges of my glove are reinforced with metal rivets. The needle won't go thru the rivet holes. Do the needles come in a smaller diameter?

The only thing I have used smaller were upholstery needles and used kevlar thread to pull the leather through. If they are smaller they would not hold leather lace enough to pull through. Sorry I do not know of any smaller.
