The Devil's AlternativeEin guter Forsyth ! Der Roman ist sehr spannend, gibt Einblick in die hohe Politik, die Arbeit der Auslandsgeheimdienste und deren internationale Zusammenarbeit und Verflechtung.

Leichte, spannende Unterhaltung und in der Originalsprache gleichzeitig eine willkommende Übung. Als Urlaubs- oder/und Bettlektüre, wie immer bei Forsyth, sehr geeignet.

フォーサイス独特の細部のまた細部にまで拘った描写は勿論のこと、ストーリー展開も最後の1ページまで予断を許さないものに仕上がっています。特にラスト50ページあたりから”第3の選択”のカラクリをちらつかせつつ、最後まで緊迫したストーリーで一気に読ませ切ってしまうあたりはもう見事としか言えません。ペーパーバック初心者の方には難易度の面で少々敷居が高く感じられるかも知れませんが、角川から日本語訳も出ていますので、そちらをご覧になりながら読み進めて行くのも良いと思います。とにかくこの手の読み物ではトップクラスのクオリティを有していることは間違いないです。

One of the most audacious books of Fredrick Forsyth. In terms of the books today, where there is a lot of blowing up of stuff and destruction, this seems tame. But the suspense is as taut as a piano wire and the action and behind the scenes intrigues is absolutely stunning. The finale is beyond belief. The story is slow to start with but once it grips you, it just refuses to let you go.An amazing book set in amazing times. Go for it!!!

Forsyth has been noted for the detail and realism his books convey. I realised how true this was while watching the news and having just been reading this book on the train home, I suddenly realised I was waiting for news on the events in this book. I think this shows how involved I had become in the story.On top of the extraordinary but believable storyline, is a good writer at work. Throughout my reading I had seen one nagging drawback to an otherwise brilliant tale. In order not to give anything away, all I can say is that I thought it was a bit biased. However as the book reaches its conclusion, with a superb twist, the idea dawns that you've been lead up the garden path, by a skilled author who can give you more than a stunning narrative.Having read the majority of his books I would recommend any of them, but this one is especially good.
