Lithophanes

Just what I've been looking for

I got this book to do research on a Lithophane which I bought in New Orleans. It is amazing to see a image with so much detail that is shown by projecting light through a piece of fired clay. Anyone who has seen a Litophane will want to learn more about it. The book is worth every penny!

I bought the book because I already knew it and wanted it. Obviously it's not a surprise that I am very satisfied with the purchase

This is a beautiful book with many details and examples of lithophanes. It explains the history and gives information about the Blair Museum where there are the most lithophaes in the world plus other historic places that have them. I would recommend the book.

If you collect or like Lithophanes then this is the must have book.The photos are excellent and the research is flawless. Well written.

I first encountered lithophanes on a trip to Toledo Ohio. The little museum there that was dedicated to the subject just blew me away! We do not know the identity of most of the artists who made these pieces because they were perceived simply as "coppiests" in their day. The details that the largely anonymous artists achieved in these thin ceramics is astounding. This book gives a very good introduction to this under-appreciated early form of lighted art.
