About Swagman "Ride, paddle, explore: seek your adventure" That philosophy was the intention of founders Jim and Jan Morris who saw an opportunity to create a better way to transport your bike back in the early 90’s. Swagman was one of the first companies worldwide to design and market a hitch style bike rack. Over the years, that small bike rack company based in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia grew to include numerous other ground breaking designs in the North American Bicycle, RV and Automobile markets.

Ehhhhhhhhhh just ok..
I bought this after returning a Thule because with these newer slanted diagonal bike frames our bike just didn't fit. So this was easy to assemble and very sturdy. The bike cradles can be angled so the bikes are all level which greatly aids in rear window visibility!!!I do not know what magic you need to fit 4 bikes on this rack the three that we have fit snugly!PROS: sturdy quality material easy assembly cradle angles are adjustable that aids in rear visibility easy to remove and store in a garage will clear most small SUVs when the bikes are not on itCONS: the bolt does not come with a washer, or lock washer at all, went to home depot and the assistant could not find any washers to fit the bolt! *This should be provided from the manufacturer*!!! thicker bike frames may not fit in the cradles *Just like I read in other reviews the locking nut is only good for ONE use!!! That's right It never was able to lock or even tighten down to secure the last bike ever again TOTAL FAIL!!!!!! I purchased the alternative bolt with the key lock on the end (look the part # up I do not recall it) The locking bolt should be "STANDARD EQUIPMENT" the threads are double the length of the original and it comes with both a washer & lock washer!!!! It makes No Sense that the extra $17 or that it costs not to be included standard when all of the good mechanical engineering benefits and secure the rack and bikes sooo much more secure compared to the original.

Picture is not what they appear to be
I will update this review once I receive the replacement on Oct 2, 2015. The problem I had with the unit is the joint piece. The picture shows a folding down rack, but the one I received and what shows in the box is a fixed joint. The three that reviewed this mount did not have any mention about the hitch mount. Look at the picture, the close up picture shows a fixed joint, which is what is on the box. The picture that shows the whole mount is what is on the web, check out the joint piece, it is not the same on the box, but the top is correct. Very confusing.Updated Oct 5, 2015I got the unit, I assembled it. So far it seems secure. However, the locking knob is not working. I am contacting the manufacture to see if there is something I am doing wrong. I will keep you updated. It is not meant for kids bike, a small bike was a bit tricky to get in. The bike with a training wheel was a no go. I like the flexibility that I can angle the bike rest, this helps keeping the wheels level with the ground.

Rack is heavy and the locking mechanism is poorly engineered; QA is missing
Ordered, received and assembled; hitch pin missing, parts enclosed that did not pertain to this system, key would not fit the lock - key was bent and the lock insert was dented; called Swagman and new parts were sent; new lock broke at first use - which was after I had driven a great distance; ride had to be cancelled; I cant trust that this will not happen again; too bad, I have an indoor bike rack and it works great

Lousy Customer Servie
This rack is very sturdy, I use it on the back of a camper and the bikes definitely stay put. Could have gotten more stars if the locking handles worked better. The locking one doesn’t work at all and on 2 of the others the threaded bushings pulled out of the handle. I contacted customer service at Swagman and they said that they were going to send replacements, but they never did. I finally gave up and fixed them myself.

Worth every penny!
We have only used the Swagman XP a couple of times since purchasing it. And so far it performs great. Assembly was simple and quick, and attaching it to our 2-inch receiver was easy. It remains very stable with very little wobble under normal driving conditions. I recommend buying the adapter for a woman's bike. Although the supplied brackets do allow for some leveling of the bike, it would still be almost impossible to mount without the adapter. Also, although we only have 3 bikes to carry, we bought the 4-bike rack so as to allow extra space between the bikes if necessary. This turned out to be a wise decision. Overall, very satisfied!

The knobs used to tighten and retain the bikes ALL broke.
This rack was VERY disappointing. Almost lost 3 bikes...Too much plastic for a rack that claims to be RV / Travel Trailer rated. The knob that tightens down to hold the bike/bracket in place has a threaded metal piece that is press fit into the plastic know. On the first bounce they pulled apart and the bike was no longer secured. Very poor design.I ended up trashing it half way through a 2 week road trip. Was not worth the risk of losing bike(s) and/or causing an accident on the highway.

Good sturdy rack
Only issue I had was that if you get the clamps good and tight, which you need to do, the bolt tops will be above the top of the nut which could damage a bike. I have a grinder so I ground them flush with the top of the nut.

It's super solid compared to other racks I owned
We bought this rack for our RV. It's super solid compared to other racks I owned. The installation was pretty straight forward. It comes with a threaded and a regular pin for the hitch receiver. It's important to use the threaded hole which only threads on one side and cinches up the slack where the rack fits into your 2" receiver on your vehicle.
