About the Actor
Bingbing Fan was born 16 September 1981. She is a Chinese actress, television producer and pop singer. Fan rose to fame in Asia in 1998-1999 with the mega-hit TV series My Fair Princess. In 2003, she starred in Cell Phone, which became the highest-grossing Chinese film of the year, winning a Hundred Flowers Award. Since then she has received awards from the Golden Horse Film Festival and Awards, Eurasia International Film Festival, Tokyo International Film Festival, Beijing College Student Film Festival and Huading Awards for films like The Matrimony (2007), Lost in Beijing (2007), Buddha Mountain (2011) and Double Xposure (2012). Fan has participated in many foreign-language films, such as the French film Stretch (2011), the Korean film My Way (2011) and the Hollywood blockbuster X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014). She has also been called a fashion icon due to frequent appearances on the red carpet, movie premieres, and fashion shows. She topped the Forbes China Celebrity 100 list in 2013 and 2014, after ranking in the top 10 every year since 2006. In 2007 Fan left her management company Huayi Brothers to establish Fan Bingbing Studio. Since then she has produced TV series that she also starred in, and her TV show The Empress of China, believed to be the most expensive Chinese series in history.

No English Subtitles on Hi-YAH version.
It says there are English subtitles, but they are not available. Yes, I checked the subtitles toggle and the subtitles settings. The subtitles are perma-set to OFF. There is no option for ON.

Excellent Chinese period fantasy film.
Based on a famous fantasy novel by Leung Yu Sang (a version of which was previously filmed as the Bride with White Hair parts 1 and 2 starring Brigitte Lin Ching Hsia and Leslie Cheung in 1993). This lavish period piece occurs at the time the Manchus are looking to invade China and take over the country. The special effects are excellent and the action and of course the internal politics and the double crossing of the various factions which occurs. There is a number of bonus feature concerning the making of the film etc.

The move has a great, emotional story
I hear there's an earlier version of the same story ("The Bride with White Hair") from the 90s. Haven't seen it so no comparisons there. The move has a great, emotional story, but with a little over an hour and a half run time things felt very rushed. The lead actors are great, and balance each other in regards to driving the story. The effects look as good as anything Hollywood puts out. Caveat: sometimes the film does go into the realm of cheese with montage and pop song, but just ride it out. Action sequences on par with some of the better stuff, putting even the sequel to "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" to shame. And that movie had Donnie Yen and Michelle Yeoh!

A good purchase
Really entertaining. Great fight scenes. Very good disc. All the eng subs are really well done. Audio is excellent. Picture is good. No issues playing this disc. Very good movie. Nice little romantic story mixed in as well.

Stunning performance by Fan Bingbin
Movie is sort of a remix from the Briget Lin "Bride with White Hair"I'm usually not a big fan of movie re-do's but this one was done beautifully (not to mention Fan Bingbing performance).The CGI and action scenes are not over the top but well choreographed ..

This was romance/action film from china,A man travels to give an ailing official some red pills (on way sees title lady falls in love),but is betrayed ! This tells story of clans trying to overthrow emperor seek power , its got lot of action (wirework), plenty romance , (me personally to romantic ) thats just me action junky ,it really is good film , well acted good cast , you wont be disappointed!

Of Snow Kingdom..?
Very romantic film with the cast on top form. Watch out though: conversion is about 7/10, in letterbox widescreen and the quality/subtitles are sorta pixelated!! Watch it from a distance for best effect.

While I love Asian cinema and especially films depicting ancient Asian mythology, this one intrigued me as the white haired witch is a sorceress who decides to fight off an invading Manchurian army to save her people, only to be double crossed by the corrupt government she helped save. The art work & wire fights fit right in with the story narrative and scores. However, the Blu-ray disk was defective, having several sectors that will not play in my farily expensive Blu-ray play with the latest updates. Full marks to Amazon.ca for sending me a replacement disk @ no charge, but after attempting to play it several times, I gave up. It appears the entire current supply is defective, which is a shame as the production values of the film alone make this a must-see for fans of this genre. The 2 star rating is strictly due to numerous defects in both Blu-ray disks, preventing enjoyment of the film.
