Q: What weight material are they?

While material weight is classed at somewhere less than winter thickness, its not an adequate sizing. They should have a standardized knit weight sizing to quantitatively define what you're buying. Eg: Summer = knit-1; Fall = knit-2; Winter = knit-3. So a knit-2.5 would be somewhere between Fall and Winter.

Q: What does open bottom mean

Hello and thank you for reaching out with your question. Open bottom just means that they are just like a regular pair of pants. Closed bottom has elastic around the bottom hem to keep it tight against your ankles/leg, but these don't do that. I hope this is helpful. Thank you!
