It works and up and riding again!
I am mechanically challenged...so, keep that it mind. It took me two days off and on to finangle this to work. I have a diamondback commuter bike (serene citi) with large handlebars. Strangely after having a bike shop put on a kickstand and replace my brake cables, my right( back derailler) twist shifter was stuck on "7"...apparently bike shop guy managed to damage my original shifter cable with the new kickstand bolt which was right under the derailler cable. :( I really didn't want to trust expensive bike shop repair guy with my bike after that! So, I researched the twist shifters and realized that I could not simply replace the cable without somehow opening the shifter, I found an access port for the cable, but short of pounding the shifter I could not get inside easily to thread a cable. These new Shimano shifters seem to be the solution so I ordered them. The good news is that1) what a value! 20$ You get nice shifters, cable housings with caps and cables.2) They are much nicer than my original grip shifter. Easy to move.3) The rear sprocket indexing was compatible with Shimano Tourney derailler that I have already on the bike.4) I was able to get this to work and not have to return to bike shop guy for help replacing these shifter cables.And...did I mention...I didn't know anything about bike deraillers, and I managed to install this. Score! The bad news1) the included cable housings were far to short for me to use for either the front or back derailler... by about 10 inches. I had to reuse my old cable housing, which is not ideal, and then the cable attached to the shifter was too short to travel to my rear derailler in the old cable housing. Annoying, because I don't have the superhuman strength wire cutters necessary to shorten my old cable housing. (It is like cutting through satellite cable). So...if you have a comfort bike/commuter bike with the large handlebar setup please be aware that the cable housings are far too short and the shifter cable itself is at the outer limit of traveling to the rear derailler, In my case it was *just* long enough.2) They don't include the crimp caps for the end of the cables3) you have to look up the dealer's manual at the shimano website...it isn't straight forward at all how to find this manual, I ended up searching for the publication code from the user's manual at the website and then found the instructions for install in the dealer's manual.Another note:Up shifting from 2nd to 4th sprocket (in my 8-speed this is from gear 7 to gear 5) is really rough and inconsistent,.but all the downshifts were perfect. I tried finessing the cable barrel adjuster but can't seem to get this consistent. Not sure if this is an indexing problem on the shifter or just a problem with the sprockets on my bike. Or mechanic error :)And- why mess with something that already works? I did not replace my front derailler shifter control- so I cannot comment on that. Nice to have it as a backup!

Perfect replacement.
Many don't like grip shift, but these are great for a cruiser bike!!

Replaced a Microsoft set, big improvement
I recently acquired a Trek 7300 that came with Microshift levers. I hadn't had these on any previous bikes and I wasn't impressed. They aren't a true indexed shifter, more like the old fashioned friction shifters with clicker.I was very familiar with the Shimano Revoshifters having had them on several bikes before. The installation was very straight forward and now the bike shifts as it should.

Great grip shifter for Shimano
If you want grip-style shifters for Shimano derailleurs, these are the way to go. I don't think they shift quite as well as RapidFIre shifters, but no grip shifter would. They are an outstanding value, even more so considering they come with cables and housing. They do have to be used with the shorter style of grip; the short SRAM ones (which I also ordered from Amazon) are just the right size.
