Q: How well do these work with lathe and plaster walls? Do they go deep enough to get into the lathe or just into the plaster?

I've been using these picture hangers for years & have had no problems. Pay attention to the weight of the picture and the load limit on the hangers. Sometimes for large, heavy pictures (40-50 lbs.), I use 2 hangers to distribute the load better. If you have a stud finder & the location works for what you want to hang, secure the hanger into the plaster by a stud to make it even more secure.
