On this stove you could roll a sheet of paper and put it down the main/vertical pipe or hold a lighter under the main chamber where there are several slots (to let ashes drop out and air in). Paper....a piece of cardboard...anything you can light you can put in and start it.

Q: How do you remove the ash at the bottom after use? And can you put a small dutch oven on top?

The bottom has 5 slots cut into it where the ash drops out so put it somewhere safe when in use! And, yes, a Dutch oven would be just fine on it. The top supports are 9 inches end to end and hefty enough to hold some weight. It's heavy [guessing 7 or so lbs] but has a good carry handle to move it around in camp....I would not hike it in very far due to weight.

Q: I would like to have this product for emergencies during hurricane season. Wood usually gets wet. Can charcoal be used for fuel?

Yes charcoal would work as a fuel. I would obtain both fuel soaked charcoal, and normal dry cold charcoal. As this is for emergency purposes you may want a fire fast. I suggest that you crush the dryer charcoal down to 1/4” to 1/2” size chunks, and store so I’m in freezer bags. Dry charcoal is very hygroscopic, it sounds like you live in the area where it’s very damp. So keep the charcoal dry. Something else to think about, with charcoal the stove will burn very hot so will be easy to add wet wood fuel and get a good fire without burning all your charcoal.
