Master Distillers Hydrometer Test Jar (All Glass)

While the graduated cylinders you get with various hydrometers are ok, they are larger volume, opaque, and have external volume demarcations that obstruct a clear reading from the floating hydrometer. This cylinder is transparent glass and small volume. I no longer feel guilty drawing a sample near the end of fermentation, but prior to the beer being fully done, for a sample. The glass is relatively thick and sturdy as well. The revenue picture is for a hydrometer with just enough beer to get a reading for a 1.010 gravity reading. Highly recommend.

Exactly the capacity needed for a hydrometer reading without excessive waste. 250ml cylinders are far too big for taking hydrometer readings. This 100ml, absolutely clear cylinder is perfect. It's rugged and heavy borosilicate glass make it nearly indestructible to every drop, except onto bare concrete or ceramic tile.

My Hercules hydrometer needed a new home after the plastic beaker cracked at the base, so I knew zip needed better material than that for its replacement. More than I bargained for in every way. The Hurk fits beautifully leaving little room for liquid, which I think makes reading much easier, due to less bubbles. It just adds an elegance and improves my mood even just looking at it!

Other cylinders I considered held too much liquid or the graduations would interfere with my hydrometer readings, among other things. Once I found this one I knew it was the one I needed. I immediately ordered it and it came shipped in a very sturdy box with the top safely wrapped in heavy paper. Upon further inspection I did notice some scratches in the glass and thus returned it. A replacement one just arrived and it also has a long scratch. I have decided to keep this one as the scratch, although much longer, seems less likely to cause problems. Just wanted people to know about the scratches in case it's important to you. Overall though I highly recommend this test cylinder.

Don't use plastic ones. This glass test jar is perfect. The plaster ones will break or crack over time and feel cheap. This is a quality product and will last years and years if you take care of it. There's nothing like glass over plastic.
