Again, the Dover publications of scores is excellent and to have both symphonies in one volume is a real find. The 3rd is huge but the clarity of the printing makes it easy to follow the score. The 4th is smaller in scale but again, the print quality is excellent.

An economical decision
This two in one score is terrific for the amateur music fan who likes to curl up in their favorite chair on a stormy Saturday night with their headphones and some hot chocolate and hear everything the composer wanted. The print is large enough to see everything that is going on without being so clumsy that it is unmanageable without a stand or table. The price is right too!

music is music
What can I say? it's a symphony score! I guess I can comment that the book is well made. doesn't fall apart or anything. You can read everything clearly~ great for leaning music if you're studying music or a professional who wants to learn the score.

Good score
The Dover reprints are not the best but for the price nothing beats it! I highly recommend these Symphonies !

Generally very good, with one significant problem
I bought this score to study Mahler's fourth symphony as part of my A2 music course, to avoid the horrors of tiny study volumes. Generally I have been very satisfied. The systems are large, easy to read and very well laid-out; only rarely are noteheads crammed together, and the occasional instance of an expression mark intersecting with an empty staff are rare and present no difficulties. There is always enough space to write in annotations. At the beginning of the book is an extremely helpful glossary of every German term as it appears in the score: an essential resource if, like me, your German is not up to scratch, for Mahler does write a great deal of additional instructions on his music. Some of the composer's more extensive directions are translated in full as footnotes: for example at the start of movement 4: "It is of the greatest importance that the singer be extremely discreetly accompanied." There is also a section at the book's opening containing both the original texts used in the vocal passages of both symphonies, with accompanying translations. I do have one fairly major complaint about this score however: it is presented entirely without bar numbers. This is not a crippling problem, as I can write them in myself, but this does take a long time and with movements several hundred bars-long, miscounting by one or two is very easy; I recommend obtaining another score to check that you have calculated correctly. This problem aside however, I would wholeheartedly recommend this score both for students and conductors: the one-time tedium of counting bars is undoubtedly preferable to months of squinting at a tiny booklet, and in all other respects this book is a very desirable choice.
