Great paints but overpriced
As of February 2024 this set is being sold in Japan for around $40. Individual half-pans are $2-3.

Great pigments!
These pans of paint are so much better than Windsor Newton set I used before. Easier to wet and loaded with color. The brush included is high quality too!

Great paint! Great colors! Great case! What’s not to like! Five Stars! (price has doubled)
Great Product! I absolutely Love anything by the Holbein Co. top notch! Quality paints and brushes! Usually there stuff comes Beautiful packaged in really nice blue or ruby colored containers...what’s not to like, Holbein = Class Act! = Quality! I purchased mine in December 2018 when the price was a whopping $59.00 and Free Shipping! (Talk about inflation)Respectfully,Jeff MercerMentor, Ohio

Beautiful packaging isn't everything.
I first want to say that I have never used any Holbein paints, as I don't like tube paints. When I saw this in pan form, I thought I would give them a try. First my positive impressions. The box is beautiful. The paints, once I got them unwrapped, took me by surprise. This paints are beautiful and behave wonderful! I swatches of mushrooms and rocks (on watercolor paper) and the paints moved and behaved beautifully! So definitely, great paints! The travel brush that came with the box was not so bad. it extends out to a fairly decent size and handled okay. The one issue I had was that it didn't keep its point extremely well. Last, but not least, the array of colors were really good with two exceptions. My not so positive impressions...the beautiful box, which is titled Palm Box. I don't know who's palm this box would fit comfortably in, but certainly not mine. Unless you have big hands and your painting outside, this box is too heavy and big for painting outdoors, unless you set it on something. Next, unwrapping the paints. This was difficult for me. I finally, kind of got the hang of it, but definitely not the easy. Colors-the color choices were really pretty good, but I did have two exceptions. If this were your only paint box, I would have preferred Ultramarine blue over Cobalt Blue Pale, and if black must be included, include any other black, just not Ivory Black. The brush- actually was pretty good, decent size, easy to use, but does not keep its point real well.Overall, worth the money. I took the paints out of the box provided and put them into a standard 12 pan little palm box.Sorry about this review being so long.
