To live as a servant
Kirby's Way is an example of how to be not only a good person, father, and businessman but a man of true moral character. The author showed the personal life of a man who lived with much integrity and was true to his word. Kirby's Way should be everyones way. It is not only a story of his business life but also about his family and friends lives. He went above and beyond to be a servant to all those he encountered and did not expect anything in return. He and Caroline, his wife, were portrayed as people that did not want to be recognized for their good deeds. Those type of character traits demonstrates that they were people of faith. Klink mentions that Kirby's favorite verse in the bible was, "But when you do kindness to someone, do it secretly-do not tell your left hand what your right hand is doing" (Matthew 6:3). A friend of Kirby's once said, "A man no one dislikes must be blessed from above."I also appreciate the authors attention to detail about the world events and Lafayette during this era. It really gives you a since of appreciation of how adaptable Kirby was at this time and how patient, his wife, Caroline had to be while he was running his business in his special way.I look forward to future writings from Klink as she really does her homework.

Great history of Lafayette, IN and Risk family. It's a model for American doers and cities.
Cover to cover, Klink captures the essence of what built and continues to build American cities...local citizens of strong character and strong "can do." She entwines the incredible Risk family with a century's history of community building. And, she keeps it real and readable! Wonderful book!

Good for history of Lafayette, IN, in the 20th Century
I found this book by accident and bought it because I grew up in Lafayette, IN. I knew many of the people mentioned in the book but learned even more about them and the Kirby Risk organization after reading the book. I have loaned it to a friend with prior Lafayette connections and he also enjoyed it. The book has a small group of additional readers waiting and some may be buying their own copies.
