helps prevent theft
I had my utility trailer stolen so my neighbor recommended this and it works great!

It was tested, it works.
Chose this to secure our new aluminum garden trailer. Also had a lock to secure the chains back around the tongue so the chains could not be used to just haul the thing off. The first and only night it was left outside a serious attempt to steal the trailer was made. It was parked in the driveway of a seemingly well lit safe neighborhood. The trailer has deep tool marks between the lock and the rounded area that the ball goes up into and tool marks behind the same rounded area where they tried to pry it off. It is stronger than the metal of the trailer and seemed to reinforce the flanges it slides over. The lever that would usually lock the trailer on to the ball was beaten up, loosened and bent. A hammer was also used to the top of the ball area. The lock held up, the Thieves gave up and I still have my trailer. Don't think I would be saying that if I had gotten the ball/insert type lock. This one fit perfectly on the flanges of the 2" tongue. Easy on. With the deep damage done to the metal of the trailer I would expect some damage to the lock. Well, there was barely a scuff. I can highly recommend this lock. I can only say thank you for protecting my small but important trailer. Worth every penny.

This device is great. It fits very well over my 2" coupler
This device is great. It fits very well over my 2" coupler. and once locked has very little play. It is heavy which lead me to believe that it is well constructed of dense metal. As most people have stated, if someone really wants your stuff, they can get it with sheer determination. I figure the right kind of lock is a deterrent to 95% of the yahoos who would take a quick swing at getting my utility trailer. I had another one that had a shaped bar that straddled the top of the coupler. It was eventually lost, but I never did like the amount of play it had even when fitted as tight as I could get it. Also I always imagined that one or two good blows with a sledge hammer would have snapped it off. Because this one utilizes the common flange around the coupler, it would appear to draw on its strength to resist being pounded off. I think even if a grinder were applied to it, it would take a long time to effectively cut through enough of it to remove it.I also double up by using a special high-quality stainless bolt lock designed for the lever that locks the coupler to the hitch. So the SOB that tries to get my trailer is going to need all the determination and time he can muster.Yeah the lock is awkwardly keyed on the bottom, but it's a small price to pay for confident security, Buy it.

Excellent Lock To Thwart Amateur/Accidental Thieves
In response to the other reviewer of this product, "M", who claims the lock is worthless...I could not disagree more. If the lock was worthless, it wouldn't even slow down a criminal in stealing your trailer. Any trailer coupler lock that is easy for YOU, the owner, to use, is not going to be thief-proof. If a thief is motivated enough, even a locked coupler won't stop them from towing away your trailer. The point is to deter most criminals from even trying...i.e. move on to the next trailer whose owner didn't spend a few bucks on a lock!Back to this coupler lock...overall I found it to be a very sturdy and easy-to-use lock for our 2" trailer coupler. Some may not like how the key lock hole is on the bottom of the lock, facing downwards, especially if they are not fond of bending over. That is why I am more a fan of the DeadBolt Blockhead lock (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EP99H0G/) that has the key lock hole on the front. The reason why I took a star off for this product is because of that fact plus the fact that it only fits the one size coupler (2"). The Blockhead lock I just mentioned is able to accommodate 2 5/16" couplers as well. I can see that some may argue that the tighter, singular fit of this lock is better (less wiggle room), but so far I have not experienced any problems with the Blockhead's looser fit on 2" couplers. You may have noticed I mentioned "accidental thieves" in my headline...in our area we have seen social media posts of neighbors asking if anyone knew who took/stole their boat trailer from the general parking area. Turns out that sometimes someone isn't paying attention and will take your trailer by accident because they look the same! So that is partly why we put locks on all of our trailers, even if we feel like it is a "safe" area!

Looks formidable, but light pot-metal construction.
I like the bottom lock placement, I think it would be moer difficult to pick (not a fan of barrel locks). It looks like a formidable device to defeat, which hopefully will deter the evil thevin scum. As part of a multi layer approach, I think it's adequate. Let's face it, trailers are easy targets, make yours look like work to remove and some phallic head who won't work to obtain money to purchase a trailer will move on to a different one. Fits our new Nucamp Tab 320 camper.

Just What I Needed
I had to return the first one of these I received. It had obviously been repackaged, the finish was chipped in a couple of places, and it was missing the keys which are needed to make it work. Not the sort of quality control I've come to expect from Amazon but they quickly made it right by sending me a new one in two days, this time in an original package and in good condition with the necessary keys. This coupler guard fits my camper perfectly, is unobtrusive and appears to be strong and well made. It is easy to install and remove after a bit of practice and it seems to be exactly what I was looking for.

Trailer Hitch Lock
I like this lock! Super-easy to attach, push the lock button, and you're done! The design is very effective for trailer security. Yes, unlocking the unit requires the key to be inserted upside down, so big deal...takes about 20 seconds to find the lock hole, turn the key, and slip the entire unit off the hitch ball. I've had several of these during the years, and they certainly do the job!

Doesn't fit Australian tow hitches
All the reviews I read spoke extremely highly of this device and I am sure it is excellent, however I found that it would not fit either of my caravan or trailer tow hitches. It appears that US hitches have a larger flat, thin flare around the edge of their coupling that mates with the Gorilla Guard. Australian couplings have one but not a shape that suits this device.Sorry, it sounded like a great piece of kit but no good for Aussie vans and trailers.
