The Blaue Reiter

Absolutely terrific
This is a wonderful, wonderful book about the short-lived but ground-breaking group of artists in Munich and Murnau (Bavaria) in the years before WW I. Kandinsky is probably the most well-known today, but Gabriele Münter and Franz Marc are also of central importance, and other artists are covered as well. The essays are straightforward, well written and highly informative and useful. The reproductions are of excellent quality -- the colors jump off the page, just as they do in the painting themselves -- and are large enough that they can be really examined in some detail. I'm just so happy that I happened to find out about this book, and immediately ordered it when I did. Enormous pleasure!

Beautiful book
Nice sized book. Not quite coffee table, but eight by ten inches (portrait size) and big enough to see gorgeous, color photos on glossy paper.

Small, thin book doesn't represent artist well
This is a small, thin book -- a paperback, in my case -- that does not show-off the artist's magnificent paintings well at all. Because of the size of the book, you can't see them as well as in a larger, coffee-table book. There is very little text written, most of that is in the two-page forward. All of the pictures are in color, though.
