At the Organ with Virgil Fox (H. W. Gray)

My husband is currently transcribing classical music by the great composers, for his electric guitar. He likes the way that Virgil Fox plays, so this is the perfect book to use. He's better at playing The Star-Spangled Banner in Hendrix's style, but at least he can see what the actual notes are supposed to be, if he cares to play them. He bought this more for the Bach and the Mozart compositions. When I was growing up, I played the organ, and took lessons for many years. I think I would have been a better student if I could have listened to Virgil Fox's recordings, to get the passion and the correct phrasing on music that I wasn't familiar with, then studied the sheet music. I can't tell you how it pains me to think of playing songs like Bach's Jesu of My Desire, and not having a clue as to how a professional would play it. They were just notes on a page. I wanted to play like Keith Emerson, but tell me where I could have found the sheet music back in the 60's. Virgil Fox's virtuosity can easily inspire any keyboardist who want to delve into the classics.

Not for beginners, at all. Requires quite a bit of pedal work on an AGO pedal board. Cosmetic small scratches and creases, as described. When I received the book I noticed the new price on the back under the bar code was 14.95. I paid 14.10. I thought that was unfair. Then, I noticed a current new price on this book was 21.95, so, my error.

These are showy arrangements of well know pieces. Depending on taste, these may be a hit, or not.I got this for a younger person with a near-zero level of self-consciousness. The pieces attract attention.The child doesn’t take himself too seriously: he plays for fun. These pieces please him

I have had this book for years, but loaned it to someone (can't remember who!).... So, bought it again. I had it spiral bound to make pages easier to turn. As a church organist, I have used a number of the arrangements in this book for services and for concert programs, most are of at least moderate difficulty. Virgil Fox's style isn't appreciated by everyone, but I like several of these arrangements.

if your an organist and you enjoy Virgil Fox's arrangements this is a must.

The Virgil Fox book has an organ piece in it that I have tried to find for quite a while! The composition of Now Thank We All Our God is the rendition that I love and this is contained in this publication! As soon as I received the book I played it and amy very happy that I finally found this book! I know that I have purchased books before from you and am happy with everything I have purchased and I tell pople who play about the service and the products you carry!

I have been searching for the Virgil Fox arrangement of the J.S. Bach "Komm Susser Todd" or "Come Sweet Death" as played by Fox on the Wannamaker organ. This publication meets all my expectations. Very pleased to find it. Some other delightful discoveries within the book as well!Robert E. Rushton.

Virgil Fox's arrangements have been classic always!! And this book is a testament for this fact!Not an easy book to play the pieces......but with adequate practice, most pieces can be scaled. I would rate this book at the advanced level organist's collection. I'm not there yet!
