rumiX Yoga Mat

I think I've just met my favorite yoga mat!  First off, being a tree hugger by nature, and a yoga teacher by choice, I LOVE that this mat is sourced from natural materials and that it is biodegradable! What an intentional and eco forward design! Let me put it this way, you will not find a yoga mat with such outstanding quality and functionality like the Rumi yoga mat in a TJmaxx. The design of this beauty is sleek and impressive. The finish is grippy to the touch, perfect for yoga transitions, especially downward facing dogs. I practice on top of carpet at home, a yogi's biggest challenge, and this mat stood up to the test with flying colors.Be advised, skin scuff marks will be transferred from your feet and hands to the mat. This is normal and expected with a grippy surface. Also please note that this mat definitely has some weight to it, so if you're buying for in studio practice, be prepared and willing to carry what feels like the weight of a small baby with you back and forth to class. That being said, I'm so excited to bring this mat into the hot yoga studio, for it is noted that this mat will NOT absorb sweat. And Rumi thoughtfully suggested a vinegar and water solution for easy cleanup. I can tell this mat is built for life; the quality, design and comfort are there. The fact that the mat is named after my favorite Persian poet, Rumi, is the cherry on top!I highly recommend you giving this mat by Rumi a second look. This X Yoga Mat is my introduction to the Rumi brand. I'm impressed with this mat. It is made of natural rubber latex and minerals (which are not specified). It is also biodegradable - a nice feature!Although Rumi boasts that this yoga mat is consciously crafted, it is made in Taiwan. I do prefer to prioritize supporting brands who choose to manufacture domestically or in Europe ( a region with one of the most stringent worker, product, and environmental safety standards).I take several hot yoga and Pilates mat classes a week and really like this yoga mat for both applications. It offers a really nice grip, even when sweaty from hot yoga. I feel comfortable and secure in my movements with this mat. It also doesn't absorb sweat and is easy to wipe down after class with a solution that Rumi recommends of water and vinegar in a 20:1 ratio.Because this yoga mat is so sturdy and well made, there is the trade off that it is heavy. I don't mind lugging it to the yoga and Pilates studios, but something I thought I should note.I'm really happy with the X Yoga Mat from Rumi and expect it to hold up well for a long time.
