The Nightside Codex Paperback – October 31, 2020

I really enjoyed the concept of this anthology and most of the execution-there were a few stories that did not directly have to do with the theme of forbidden texts. My favorite stories were by Richard Thomas, Brian Evenson, Nadia Bulkin, Jessica McHugh, Michael Fassbender, S.E. Casey, Sarah Walker, Rhys Hughes, and Stephen Graham Jones. It's always good to find new to you authors in anthologies like this, so that was also a positive for me.

There are a lot of weird fiction anthologies appearing from small presses these days. I have tried to keep pace with as many as is humanly possible. This one was enjoyable. It had a few writers I knew of, and a few I discovered, which was a nice surprise. Many of the stories are smart—meaning, they aren’t filled with predictable plots and clichés. Some are literary and others downright strange. As with every anthology, the stories vary, but overall this is a solid collection. Anyone who likes weird fiction and horror will find something in it. Definitely recommended.
