Mikasa Swirl Black 5-Piece Serving Set

This is a very nice design, I like it a lot: matte glaze on the outside, no other ornaments, except for the waves. Sleek and simple, yet elegant enough for guests and parties. I also own the creamer and the sugar bowl, which I bought separately a year ago to replace my broken pieces from another big tableware set.It doesn't make sense, when sets go on big sale and single pieces (still sold separately) cost far more than a set containing all these pieces, so check current prices. Needless to say, I bought the set on sale, so I have the platter and a vegetable bowl, together with a jam bowl and milk server, in addition to my sugar bowl and creamer.Wait, where is the fifth piece? Ah, it's the lid. The sugar bowl lid has no notch for the spoon, so the lid does not rest flat with the spoon in and sugar gets damp from humidity.In another review I read that the 4-Piece Place Setting is packaged insufficiently by Mikasa and very often arrives with broken plates, regardless of double packaging by Amazon. I was not the case with this set.

These Items arrived to me VERY well-packaged, in multiple boxes that were stuffed to make sure they didn't slide around. Not one piece was broken, which I am extremely please with.Firstly, I'd like to say that when I saw these on the Mikasa website first, I didn't realize there were other colors which were not on sale. I'd have to say though, that the price of 67.95 or so, was probably spot-on. I wouldn't have had a very good review of these had I payed the full 123.00 or so.These are beautiful serving items. I was looking for stylish pottery that had the hand created and traditional appearance to compliment my other more modern pieces. These items will blend with the others splendidly. I chose the black color so that the colors of the food I intend to serve will "pop" more. The black color of these pieces was not disappointing. It is rich, and has a very nice tactile feeling to it with no defects to speak of. Well done, Mikasa, and Amazon. These are excellent.

I recently bought these dishes after more than 20 years with black dishes. These dishes are delightfull-the shapes are fun and they look great on the table. These serving pieces were just what I needed to complete the set. The only single problem I have with the dishes is that I have an old dishwasher so the dinner plates and serving pieces are too tall to fit, but that problem will be solved once I get a new dishwasher.
