Buy this if you love tea; I NEVER write reviews.
I was a bit concerned by some of the negative reviews I read for this Zens brewer (glass becoming hot to the touch, premature dripping of water into the cup, staining of the white version), but decided to take a chance and purchase it, given the price seemed reasonable for the materials and design (if it worked). The brewer arrived well-packed and without a chip or scratch. Thanks to other reviews, I was careful to remove all the plastic packaging (on the metal filter/strainer and the metal ball valve).I absolutely adore and deeply appreciate this tea brewer. I have used it heavily—very high frequency through the course of the day and evening, everyday—since it arrived several weeks ago because I’ve been extremely busy with work keeping me at my desk and emergency travel that required flying and a hotel stay, as well as sick. I just haven’t felt up to dealing with a gaiwan, fairness pitcher and cup and filter, or even a Western teapot and filter, when flat table space and time were at a premium. This brewer has performed beautifully. With high use, one can appreciate the thoughtful, functional design choices that went into it. The double-walled glass of the cup at the bottom protects your fingers from heat, as does the silicon middle section. It’s not necessary to touch the top (non-double-walled) glass section at all. Yes, the lid is plastic, but it is BPA-free and the steam touching it is not scalding. And after so much use, I can say the decision to have a plastic lid is a valid design choice. I dislike plastic, but people would be extremely likely to break the lid if it were glass. Also, because the lid is plastic, it stays cooler to the touch, and you can use it like a gaiwan lid to fan the tea and smell the aroma more fully. The ball valve works very well. So long as it’s in its correct position, I never experience leaks, and it’s easy to place after washing the brewer. The metal strainer works well. I sometimes get very fine sediment in the tea. I strongly dislike sediment or leaves in my tea (my husband finds it funny that I insist on a filter when pouring tea into my cup), but the minimal bit I sometimes find in my tea cup never bothers me. The fact that the tea is above the cup, separated by a filter and valve—in contrast to immersion infusers which keep the leaves sitting in the brewed tea—means you avoid overbrewing. This brewer is quite easy to take apart, wash and dry with a towel, and I’ve had no problems at all with staining. (I have the white version.). Finally, the carrier case protects the brewer well. It traveled with me in a carryon through two bicoastal flights, taxi rides, etc., with no special handling, and remains in perfect shape. From an aesthetic design perspective, this brewer is beautiful in a minimalist way. The choice to keep the top portion in transparent glass and plastic allows you to see the tea leaves as they brew. The top portion is also wide and tall enough to let the brewing tea leaves unfurl fully and freely.I find this brewer works excellently for herbal tisanes, Western-style tea, and gongfu-style multi-steeps of white, purple, green and black tea. It may not work quite as well with pu-erh tea in terms of heat retention, because it is glass. In sum, this is a highly functional and beautiful tea brewer, without any superfluous or (from my point of view) poor aspects. Given all that I’ve shared, I now regard the price I paid as a bargain, and not just reasonable. Honestly, this is the first review I’ve ever written of a product I bought on Amazon, and I’m a long-time Prime user. But I love this product so much that I felt compelled to support it.

Brilliant for personal tea, portable, great customer service
Having just gotten into gongfu tea brewing and good tea, I was looking for something portable to bring with me to work. The Zens travel tea set is perfect for having a tea session away from home without carrying a bunch of loosely packed gear. I find myself using it often at home, too, when I just don't feel like dealing with a gaiwan and everything else. The included carrying case is hard(ish) but not impenetrable. One day, I brought my set to work and when I opened my case to have tea, I found the bottom part to be shattered. My bag had been stationary and safe all morning, so I can't imagine that the set sustained any impact, thus I contacted Zens and they promptly sent me a new one. I wasn't expecting that and it goes to show that they back their product! Now I'm extra careful with everything (especially the bottom double-walled cup) and it is every bit as brilliant as when I bought it. Would recommend.

So so in love
So I want to say that for those thinking this will heat your water, it doesn’t do that! So don’t buy thinking it will. Now on to the reviewThis item is beautiful!!! The carrying case seems as if I can wipe it down if it gets dirty. All the inner items are easily washable by hand. Cup is absolutely anti scalding. I love my tea HOT! So the fact that I could hold the cup and it didn’t burn me is amazing. The cup only felt warm while my liquid was hot. The design however is flawed. The pieces are tightly fitted and I wish they were but I am finding my way around it. The water may over flow when entering the bottom piece. I recommend holding it a bit to keep it all tight and secure. Other than that I don’t have a problem. Steeps my tea perfectly and it’s extra cute which is what I like lolUpdate: Turns out there was no design flaw, there was a me flaw!! I hadn’t placed the steel ball in properly

Defective stopper
Beautiful design but the stopper is defective. As soon as I start pouring water, it steps straight down without pressing button.
