Outward Hound Kitty Camo Box No Dogs Allowed Cat Scratcher and Hideaway for Cats by Petstages

The Camo Box from Petstages is a Cute and Affective Cat Scratcher and Hideaway for Kittens and Small Cats!
My parents' small, female cat, Angel, loves the "No Dogs Allowed" Kitty Camo Box from Petstages. Angel weighs approximately seven pounds. Despite her small size, this former stray will attack (and try to kill) any size rodent that enters her territory. She has killed squirrels that were nearly as big as her. Angel has tapered off on her attacks after one managed to tear a huge chunk out of her scalp before it died. However, there are dogs that live practically all around Angel. My parents live in a dog-loving neighborhood. A woman who was visiting the next-door neighbors brought a pit bull. It wasn't on a leash and it chased Angel up a tree. She stayed in the tree for several hours before coming down. Therefore, a Camo Box with a "No Dogs Allowed" sign on it is exactly what Angel needed. Unfortunately, I don't think camouflage and a sign would prevent a determined pit bull from pursuing Angel. The Kitty Camo Box from Petstages is small and flimsy. It would be too small for some of my friends' male cats. After all, the name implies it is only for kittens. However, as I stated earlier, Angel loves it. (It must be the catnip that permeates it.) No matter where my dad puts the Kitty Camo Box, Angel is sure to go inside and scratch its floor. The only thing that this scratcher lacks is a roof. I think Angel would feel more secure and protected if it had one. She has a kitty condo that she always runs and hides in when someone annoys her; it has numerous tubes for her to crawl in and out of while playing. Overall, I think the Camo Kitty Box is an ideal cat scratcher and hideaway for KITTENS and SMALL cats. It would make a great gift for a lucky pet!

My short, compact cat loves it, I can just barely stand it, but it is for him, not me anyway. Top won't stay on
Well, my cat would rate it a 5. He got in it almost as soon as it was put together and knew exactly what to do with it. He loved on it, hid in it, and scratched in it. He REALLY seems to love it. It says it is sprayed with catnip, and while I can't smell it, he seems to adore the way it smells and has been rubbing all over it. He is a fairly small cat. I don't think my large cats would fit in this. I know my super long one won't. But it fits & suits my little 6 lb, constantly tensed up, scared of his own shadow, compact Squeaky Gomez just fine. Oh, he's been showing the base of this thing who is boss.My own feelings about it are not so great, because the top is held on with 4 wooden dowels that my cat constantly knocks out and I have to put back together. I might try hot gluing it. I'm really getting tired of picking the murdered fabric walls off the floor and finding the dowels only to see it destroyed again in a couple of hours. Also, while cats really LOVE scratching and laying on the cardboard super-corrugated bottom, I get tired of the mess they can make when they REALLY get crazy with the claw sharpening. Little bits of paper will fly and it has to be vacuumed around more often than I'd like.

My "granddaughter" loves it....
This is cute and Calllie, my granddaughter as my daughter likes to say, went right in it with her sharp little nails. Evidently the catnip smell draws them in without any problem. I am surprised that the bottom is basically just a piece of strong cardboard which works but probably won't last a long time. It doesn't have the price on here at them moment so I don't know if it's worth the price or not. The top is so thin that I know it's not going to last long. The material is slotted for some reason, maybe for them to peek through. The corners fit onto dowel rods and they slide into the box slots. As soon as Callie stood up she brought the whole top up with her. She's not a big cat which is good or she wouldn't have fit in it as it's not all that big. Cats like to curl up to sleep but when they are rolling around in ecstasy (from the catnip) or scratching those claws they need a bit of room. I'm hoping my "grandsons" my daughter's little dogs will use it to get those nails down too, although there may be one heck of a showdown if they try to use it and Callie sees them. I'm going to glue the corners in and hope that lasts a while but may have to make a new tent top for it eventually if she tears this one up. It wouldn't be hard to make one though. It doesn't take up a lot of space which is good. My buying one would depend on the cost more than anything.

Assembly was easy peasy once I swept up all the catnip
My first issue with this is that upon opening the box catnip was everywhere. No wonder my kitties were accosting my mail. Assembly was easy peasy once I swept up all the catnip, but I knew this little hideaway wouldn't have staying power. The tent portion of this scratcher is useless. I assembled it only to find my cat using his teeth to remove it and I <insert Chris Traeger voice> literally became concerned for his safety. Catnip makes him a little belligerent I guess. The tent is flimsy and just gets in the way. It attaches to the flimsy cardboard with 4 dowels and it never stopped wobbling. I was concerned that my cat would get himself tanged while trying to get inside to the kitty crack..I mean catnip, so I tossed it.If your cat is above average size (like my big boned boy) he isn't going to fit in this. Maybe that is why my guy decided to attack it. Even my tiny (7 pound) kitty looked large while lounging on the cardboard portion. So I removed the tent which left me with a square cardboard scratcher. Basic and makes the cats happy, but you can usually purchase them for much less than the price tag on this. Sometimes simple is best. Especially for something disposable.

Best as a small play area, not a scratch pad
My 2 cats were very inquisitive the first day this arrived. Since then, only one, my male cat, plays in it. They have never uses it as a scratch pad. I think the awkward square box shape and the camo fabric prevent a good stretch for most cats to use it as a scratch pad. For that design flaw, I took off 1 star, as it has "cat scratcher" in the title. It may not be a bad thing they never use it as a scratch pad, as I won't have to replace the pad in the box. However, as a resting or hiding place, it does well. I thought it might be too small to play in, but as the cat adage goes "if I fits, I sits." As we also have a dog, its funny it says "No Dogs Allowed." It comes in a few parts (scratch pad, camo fabric, and 4 stakes), but it is easy to put together. Sometimes, when my cat plays in it, the camo fabric starts to rise up along the stakes, but none of the stakes have ever come out of the pad, and the fabric is easy to push back down to the bottom of the stakes.
