PENGUIN Roller Girl

5 Stars for content - beware of book material
The book itself is excellent. Beloved by my 11-year old daughter. One thing to be careful of - there are two types of book. One is a regular book, which is fine. We bought that book a couple of years ago, but it got lost unfortunately. The other type of book is slightly smaller, cheap glossy paper and it fell apart after a couple of normal uses. That type of book is not worth buying.

My Y6 class love this!!
This was PROPER fun. I’d love to be a roller derby girl! I loved the messages about self belief and friendship in this! Astrid is a great character and I loved the exploration of her emotions in this - we’ve all been there with frustration at something new, sadness and confusion over friendships and growing apart! Another one to add to my graphic novels box in my classroom - I think this will go down a storm in Year 6!

A near perfect graphic novel that packs a brilliant punch
This is my daughter (aged 10)'s favourite book. And I think it may be mine too. It's just a brilliant read for any girl, or quirky kid full stop. I actually couldn't put it down myself. It just sings with such humour and realism at the heroine tries her best to be the brave girl (and fails, and gets knocked over, and gets up again). Her rollerderby hero gives her this motto: "faster, braver, fearless", and I find myself absorbing the message of this deeply felt, funny and exciting book all the time.p.s you don't have to have a clue about roller derby/roller skating, still don't

Great story, but pages fell all out!
FIVE STARS FOR THE STORY: it’s amazing, uplifting and easy for children to connect to. I recommend it for children who are transitioning in new school, etc. HOWEVER, the book object in itself is absolutely rubbish. All the pages, one by one, have fallen out. Cheap glue, cheap binding, absolutely appalling!!
