despite troubles with damaged oven, it rocks
Well, giddiness aside, this oven works better than I had expected. We bought remanufactured, we usually do and save a few bucks as we go. Until now, I had never had a problem. The fan that operates when the convection is on, was loose on the motor shaft and rattled against the inside of the fan cage. A quick and very pleasant call to Breville Customer service resulted in a swift prepaid RMA to get another to replace our faulty unit. Well, living in a remote and rural part of the states made it costly to get it to Breville, since we don't have FedEx locally, so I broke the warranty fixed it myself. 20 minutes later the oven was working splendidly and all was well with the world. The manual is well written, organized, covers the bases for operation simply and is not a multi-lanuguage behemoth of a manual either. The oven works great, I mean great! We don't use it as a a toaster oven actually and use it as we use a normal full sized oven. It is far faster, easier and convenient too. It takes awhile to get used to cooking with convection and thus there is a learning curve which we are still learning. The Infrared elements heat quickly and cool down quickly as well. While it is a bit large to be a table top unit, it really needs room to breath if put in a cabinette like a microwave oven since it generates so much surface heat. I believe that is the reason why the plug is so large to insert into the electrical outlet. From pizzas, homemade bread, nachos to reheating meals has been far better than a microwave. Further, the timing performance of the preset auto settings work really well. For instance, toasting bread at #4, resulted in a lightly toasted bread, progressively more or less resulted in exactly the correct result. Pizzas are fabulously well cooked in here. We make quicky mini-pizzas with flat bread, foccocia or pita pockets and each time they turn out just right. It is far greater than a fancy toaster oven in my opinion. The oven is surprisingly easy to use given the many controls at your disposal and with a little patience, reading of the manual and experimentation, you get a feel for the oven performance. Quality wise, I would rate it a 4 star,a s I feel it should be better shielded so the exterior surfaces are not so hot to the touch. Since I did break it down a bit to repair my self, I can tell you it is well made, despite being made for easy manufacturing. It looks great, is solid and works fabulous. In the end, I give it a 5 star as it works as advertised. Time will tell whether it is a good long term investment or not.

Couldn't be happier - great cooking. Garners "OOH's and AHH's" from guests.
I couldn't be more pleased with this convection oven/toaster. It heats up quickly, performs simply, and while I was a little skeptical, found that it was quite easy to figure out & use the menu system without spending more than a few seconds with the manual.I bought it refurbished and couldn't be more pleased. The construction of the machine is quite heavier duty than you can expect from most modern counter ovens, and given the brand you should expect this. The trays that come with it are well constructed as well, and very good with stick resistance. I've dish washed them many times with no issues. If you have any specific questions I'd be more than happy to answer. My main uses for the unit have been to cook small freezer pizzas, to cook rolls & breads that come frozen, some toasting. I hope to use it more for conventional oven tasks like cooking of meat & cookies. That sounds funny-- "Meat & Cookies!" sorry. A little comedic relief there...Anyway, I've been nothing but pleased with the unit and it actually consumes less space on the counter than I expected. It gets lots of "ooh's and ahhh's" comments from visitors that I'd think wouldn't even be interested in the device.Update: 13 months later, I'm still really pleased with the oven. I've cooked steak in it, bread in it, and other things that really came out great due to the convection option. The only drawback I'm finding is that very often I have to search the internet for how much time to reduce my cooking due to the convection. It's a gift/curse kind of thing but worth it.Update: 8 years later! I had the oven replaced once-- they did it for me OUT OF WARRANTY with NO QUESTIONS ASKED, and paid for shipping. The older one simply stopped powering on. The replacement has gone strong many years since then and cleans up just like new. I'll definitely keep this type of oven on my countertop. The only thing I wish I had was an airfry basket type insert that some of the newer models come with. I may have to look into that. I've purchased several other Breville branded items since then and they're top quality-- like your grandparents used to rant and rave about for the appliances when they were young-- build heavy duty, and built to last. Built smart. I love all of my Breville equipment.
