Such a perfect activity for my 3 year old. He could go on big hunts in the back yard and explore! I am also impressed by the quality of the items!

Great product for a budding entomologist.

This set is seriously adorable. I ordered it thinking my six-year-old daughter might enjoy it, or I could always give it away as a gift. To my surprise, a couple days after receiving it in the mail. My daughter decided she was going to start collecting seeds in our backyard. I told my husband to go and fetch this set, for her to use. It has three little flower pots, 3 marking Pickett's to name the seeds, a tiny watering can, an insect collecting tool, an insect holder, and a small terrarium style container. The only thing I felt this set was missing is, a trowel, and a pair of little gardening gloves. My daughter got right-to-work planting her little seeds in the pots. She then of course used the little watering can to sprinkle water on them. She had no interest in the seed markers and those got thrown to the side. she hasn't began to use the insect collecting portion of the kit yet, but I'm sure she will sometime soon. I think if we still living in the Midwest, she'd be hard at work collecting fireflies with that portion. Overall, this is an adorable little set, for any child that is curious and likes to explore nature.

This Learning Resources Outdoor Discovery Set is really nothing more than a set of plastic containers and tools that CAN be used to collect bugs and/or grow things, but for the price, you can assemble these items from around most homes to do the same. For less money.If you want it all neatly packaged for a gift, then this is for you. If you just want to help kids learn about bugs and plants and other "outdoor" discoveries, you can easily gather your won equipment. (Which might be half the fun!)

As long as you know this is a really small set, I think you will be alright. My stepfather loves to garden and my daughter likes to help. Since receiving this she thinks she is all that and a bag of chips being able to do her own gardening. She can sit outside for hours and play with this set. It has kept her entertained and she continues to find things to do with the items.The only issue I have is storage. Right now we keep it in a plastic bag. We don’t want to lose the pieces to the set and this is the only way we can keep I together.

The Primary Science Outdoor Discovery Set was a huge hit with my son. He has recently taken a liking to playing more outside with the summer weather upon us, so this fit naturally into his play. The Outdoor Discover Set comes with a number of items that will help you grow plants, water them, and check out bugs you may find in your garden. My son enjoyed putting dirt inside of the containers and filling it with some cat grass seed we had for our cat, but the real hit of the playset was the bug collection device. He had a blast picking up bugs with the grabber device and then placing them in the ladybug viewing jar. He would even sometimes throw in some grass to make sure it was more like their natural environment. He would check out the bugs, make some observations and comments to us, and then promptly want to release it back into the yard. We were able to check out a worm (pictured below) and a caterpillar during testing of the product. If you have a kid who loves the outdoors and maybe has shown an interest in gardening and/or bug life, this is a great little toyset to introduce them to the natural world in our backyards.

This is a great play set of items which will be at home in the yard, on the playground or at the beach. Well made with no sharp edges. Well packaged and from the long trusted Learning Resources brand.
