Easy programming thru Chirp (use Radiodity uv-5rx3 profile). great sound quality. Operates like a UV-5R but the scanning speed is a huge improvement over my UV5R V2+. The size feels very good in the hand. Battery has charging jack that can be charged by jack or in dock like extended uv5r battery. (charger dock not interchangeable with UV5R). programs with same cable as UV5R. The case seems very durable but feels like very hard plastic in he hand. The LED backlight leaks around black bezel. Should come with a triband antenna instead of separate 1.2M antenna. So far very impressed for price. will update with more usage.The Backlight functions quit working correctly within 1 day of usage, poor transmit performance, and I experienced the "Chirping/Clicking" as seen on Ham Radio 2.0 review. Sent back for replacement. Will update based on replacement unit.Replacement radio arrived 2 days later and seems to work as expected. Seems OK for the price. The experience with the first one leaves me slightly less impressed. If I was going to buy another Baofeng HT in the Future, I would probably buy the UV-5R for a dual band, or the UV-5Rx3 for a Tri Band. I have also ordered the UV-82T and will try those when they arrive. My old UV-5R V2+ just seems to feel more solid in the hand and no light leakage in the seams of the case. One advantage of the UV-5R format is extra length batteries are available. The battery catch is on the bottom of this unit so I don't expect an extended battery to become available, unless it got thicker.

EDIT: It did work great for 2 months. Then one day it wouldn't turn on. The battery charges if I take it off the radio. But the radio won't turn on even with a full battery. Radio is in perfect shape! Never dropped, never had anything spilled on it. I 3M'd the screen and took very good care of it. Sucks that it turned out to be garbage :,(The factory antenna sucks!Get a good replacement.I've had great output with it. People can hear me clear for miles.On a hill. I've reached 20miles.But couldn't receive until I changed out the antenna.The speaker is also very quiet!Over all. I'd buy it again.Can't wait for a trustworthy source for the 10R.

Looking at the many options out there, 3-band vhf and uhf, with the features and power offered, it's one of the best I've done in amateur radios. Using an external antenna the functions of this radio are superior to many others. Despite being so economical, it resists use and operation just like those of big brands. I loved it. I will buy two more soon.

The screen in crooked within the device. It will probably bother me to exchange it but I'll see how it works first. Just cheap quality.

wait !!!!! be sure that you know about ham radio and repeater tower connection otherwise you are buying toys

I found it difficult to program using current available software; otherwise a great value for $$.

This was the second radio in less than a week. Poor performance, could barely open close repeaters, flickering on 1.25 meters. My 6 yr old uv-5r worked 10x better.

I do not recommend this HT. When operating on one band it desensitized the other bands. Causing great noise. Maybe in later models they will fix this. For now not recommended. The TYT TH350 is a much better deal.
