I wear an 8.5 and got Medium. But honestly they did not stay in place. Waste of money.

Yes these socks do have the rubber at the heel. Haven't slipped off yet.

Q: Do they shrink when washed?

They shrunk minimally. I wear a size 9 women's shoe and the socks still fit well after washing and drying.

Q: what shoes size is a small?

Probably 4-6. I use to get the small and I wear size 7 shoe. I get the medium now, because I couldn’t find small in 3 pair of white. I like medium better because they’re roomier. It’s the only kind of athletic socks I wear!
