Bought this for the sole purpose of monitoring my water temps when steeping my grains for home brew. It's not totally waterproof, and I wouldn't use it in a vigorous boil, but it seems to be pretty accurate in reading temperatures.

This spoon is great for homebrewing! After mixing all you have to do is look at the gauge for a more consistant temp as opposed to getting several different temps depending on where you take a measurement in the mash (direct heat). I love it.

Before, I was using the thermometer probe and it took longer. Now, I make yogurt every week and it is so nice to stir and read temperature at the same time. This piece of cooking equipment made that possible. If you would only use it once a month or less, don't get it because it is large and awkwardly shaped. It is a worth-while investment, if you are really going to use it.
