Korean ginseng has always been held in high regard. This particular ginseng has been dried in a proprietary way to keep its shape and potency. I Like that each root is packaged separately in a water tight glass ampoule.From what I understand, these roots are planted and cultivated in forests, which makes these sustainably harvested. The quality here is exceptional. Not only can you make tea, extracts or alcohol infusions, the roots are so soft and mild, you can simply chew on them right out of the test tube. I’ve been chewing on ginseng roots for decades, but most (American ginseng especially) are really hard and take forever to soften while chewing. Not these- they practically fall apart in your mouth. And they are really nice tasting. I make tea out them and then eat the roots. Very tonifying.As for the price, ginseng has always been expensive, with Korean usually being the most pricey. You may be able to find cheaper Korean ginseng in Korea Town, but I doubt you’ll find much better.

This ginseng comes in a luxurious box. Inside the box there is an explanation as to how long it takes to have a fully mature ginseng plant (it takes years). That may explain why ginseng is so coveted in the eastern Europe and far east. Inside the sturdy box are four individually packaged ginseng roots. Each one comes in a glass, vacuum closed container. I used one root with hot water in attempt to make tea. There was barely any flavor. I am hoping that any beneficial nutrients were released form the root into the water. In the past I typically used ginseng tablets, so this was my first time to use the root in a tea.

So for the purposes of this review I'm pretty new to Ginseng. I've taken supplments, drinks and tea containing it but never had enough of a benefit to continue use. I thought maybe getting it from "the source" would change my mind. This package of Korean Ginseng root is supposed to be the top of the food chain as far as Genseng goes. At time of review this box is $109 (saw it as high as 141) making each root around $21.80 (not including a 30% coupon running). Per packaging each root can be used up to 5 times (I'm supposing this is when you use in hot water or tea) if that's the case each serving would be about $4.36 and be about 25 "doses/uses". So when you break it down the cost isn't entirely astronimical and when you consider how long it takes for the root to be harvestable (Around 3 years) I can understand the higher costs involved. This is a very nice set, it's very well presented and preserved, each root in individual glass vials (that can be reused). When I take them out for use the fragile ends usually come off/break so be aware and open over a cup or something you can transfer those ends to. So far though- I'm not sure I get it. For example, I drank hot water for a good portion of a morning and afternoon with the root submerged- all I tasted was earthy tasting water. No more energy, clarity, or effects I could speak of. Because I got tired of drinking this water I later added ceylon cinnamon tea and drank it from afternoon into the evening. Still nothing. I would like to think with continued use there would be some effects but I'm not sure I'm motivated or convinced enough to continue once this set is gone.

I've used ginseng in many different forms since the mid-1970s, sometimes in a liquid extract form in ampules, as a tea, in capsules, and so on, but having the actual root to work with is a real treat. The suggestions for preparation and use on this page are good, but it's worth doing a little research to get the most our of each root. One could even make a concentrated extract. The term "simulated" is unfortunate, making it sound as if it's not real ginseng. It actually refers to the practice of planting ginseng where it will thrive on its own—in a forest. I can't comment on the price, except to say that whole, wild ginseng will probably never become inexpensive.

Ginseng has the reputation for extending life temporarily when on death's door... as well as increasing one's longevity when used regularly. There are many Chinese tonic soups, as well as numerous drinks and alcohols that have ginseng. In this raw form, you can either make a really expensive tea or a high-end signature dish... or even pickle it in some alcohol.These arrived in a box, and were of medium (<5") length, and a narrow diameter (<1"). They looked fresh and they should keep in a cool, dry place for some decent amount of time... like most roots. At over 100USD, it is not cheap... but that is the nature of getting the korean version, i suppose. I am rating this product four stars. As always, your mileage will depend on your skills, needs, preferences, and wallet...
