Johnstone'sHardwearing Satin, Brilliant White, 1.25L

I ordered the wrong paint thinking it was a quick drying one like I’d purchased before. The tin looks very similar. It took ages to dry but the end result was great.

Mistakenly ordered this thinking it was water based ( my own fault), so had to go over previously painted surfaces that were done in the water based satin, as this oil based one is a bit shinier, ( not as much as gloss though) and I wanted everything to match. It is not so easy to spread as the water based paint, as it's very thick (and very smelly, so keep the windows open). It takes a lot longer to dry per coat, than water based satin. However - in it's favour - I have to say that the finish is definitely superior to the water based one - it seems to give a smoother look when dry. But because of the smell, the cleaning of brushes ( you'll need turps or white spirit) and the drying time between coats (16 hours) I will be sticking to water based for future projects!

Thick paint but needs thinning to get a flow brush finish.Good paint!

Firstly this is more glossy than most satin paints so think twice.Also the downside of hard-wearing is its smelly and troublesome to clean off tools.And with a fine foam roller this paint just bubbles up as very liquid, which may help for a smoother finish or will just drip etc.
