INSTALL TIPS
These overhead garage storage racks are very well made. They're not easy to install, but not difficult either. The instructions are clear, but it does take a good few hours to install if you've never done something like this before.I received this tip from the Costco website reviews -- instead of using a stud finder which you may or may not find helpful in finding the studs, use a magnet instead (see picture). You can use a small magnet to find where the drywall screws are in your ceiling, once you have found a couple, you can use a yard stick to find the rest very easy. Once you know where the drywall screws are, you know exactly where the center of the stud is to drill in so you won't miss. I bought two different expensive stud finders from Lowe's which were absolute crap in finding the studs in my garage ceiling. For the walls in my house they were fine, but for my garage ceiling they did nothing.Another tip from a review here on Amazon is to use your phone on a selfie stick to record a video of what your rafters look like --- this only works if you have attic access in your garage, or someplace where you can see the attic above the garage. That was helpful in telling me where the studs were located and which direction they went in (side to side in my case). The hardest part in installing is just finding the studs and measuring out the proper distances. Once you know where the studs are and have triple checked your measurements, then install is simple and only takes an hour or two. And since you're drilling into the ceiling, it's good to have another person look from below and make sure that you are drilling straight up and not at an angle.I put my racks above the garage door so that I could access the racks while the garage door is still open. The instructions say you need to use two supports, but that's not possible if your ceiling has standard studs. I used one support in the center with 3 screws for extra support (two on the outsides and one in the center). This is more than sturdy enough to hold both racks (see picture). I put them about 6-8 inches apart so they would clear the garage opener railing and give me more ceiling space. I left about 1-2 inches of clearance above the garage door itself. The only things I would recommend after install, are to use some bungee cord or rope to seal off the front, back and sides of the racks. The grates are very slippery so anything you put up there will slide around easily, and potentially fall off the rack. Then the grates themselves need to be secured with some zip/cable ties to hold them down. They are only held in place by gravity and can easily be knocked out of place with the possibility of falling off the racks. I used two zip ties on each grate, front and back to hold them down. I used white zip ties, you don't notice them unless you look closely.Overall, very high quality racks and I'm happy with them. The racks shake a little from side to side if you push them, but they're very solid up there. SafeRacks provide some extra bolts, nuts and washers which is nice to have - I think because people complained in the past about not having enough hardware to finish the job. I wanted the grey colored racks, but they were out so I got white instead. Very happy with white because they match the garage and blend in nicely. They look very, very nice installed above my garage door. I'm thinking about ordering two more racks to install on the sides of my garage.I definitely recommend ordering from SafeRacks instead of the other chinese made/provided racks available on Amazon. SafeRacks is an established company in the US and has been selling in Costco for many years. High quality, clear instructions, and very affordable. Wait for the price to go down (use keepa or honey extension) to get a good deal as the price constantly changes for these racks.

Great Rack, Looks Great, and Super Functional
This rack from SafeRacks is bad to the bone. My last home, I put up 13 years ago sheets of plywood and brackets above the garage door for shelving. It worked, but looked like you would think.I just moved into my wife's "Dream" home (until she finds the next one, ha). Seriously, I wanted to put in something that looked very, very nice and is as functional as my home built.I chose SafeRacks, because it has longer ceiling brackets with two anchor points to the ceiling per corner. I installed it having my 14 year old son help, and it is perfect. I am extremely happy. I just purchased a second one, they go over the left and right side of the Double Garage Door (we have higher ceilings and they fit). They do have multiple sizes of these racks, that drop down different heights, and even each of those have adjustable heights, and mine fits within and inch of the door when it comes up.It looks really, really nice, powder coated white. It is rack, so I can see what is up there, even in the back, from on the ground without pulling a bunch down to see what is back against the wall. I have all of my outdoor Christmas decorations one, so super easy to pull down and get out in the yard. The other one I have half filled with my big coolers, Yeti and XMaxxive Igloo for fishing. It gets all the really big stuff up and out of the way.SafeRacks shipped and got both to me, I bought them a couple weeks apart, and both shipments got to me in a matter of a few days, ridiculous fast shipping, I don't know if that's always the case, but I was impressed. They shipped to Cedar Park, TX very quickly.

Great garage storage product
Very sturdy. Biggest challenge was getting the ceiling brackets properly placed and installed. Measure, measure, measure. Good quality and really stores a lot.

Even with a difficult installation I still like them.
I had a challenging installation as there was a "grid" of metal on which the drywall was hung. The stud finder "found" the metal, but the wood joists were 3/4" above the drywall (which the stud finder couldn't pick up). As a result, I had to cut an observation hole so I could measure to wood joists. Once that was done I was able to measure and install the brackets properly. I had to use longer lag bolts as a result. I have a heavy duty DeWalt impact gun and I gave one bolt too much torque and snapped it off.But once the brackets were in the installation went forward smoothly. These racks are far easier to install on unfinished ceilings or finished ceilings where the drywall is attached directly to the joists rather than a metal ceiling grid. Once up the racks look great and are sturdy. When I first discovered I was drilling into metal I called SafeRacks (as instructed in the installation manual) and found they weren't very helpful. The instructions tell you they are made for wood joists. When I called I expected to be told how to install on metal joists, but instead I was told I'd have to find an installer who could do the job. The rep even suggested calling Angie's List. After that frustrating phone call is when I cut the observation hole so I could stick my head up in the ceiling to see what was going on. Although the metal grid made the installation more difficult, I was thankful there were wood joists to attach to.

Sturdy, goes up easier with 2 persons
This is our 3rd set of overhead racks we’ve installed . (We get them for every house we move to and leave them behind for the next owner when we move). Really useful for organizing if you need extra storage. This set costs a little more than the most economical ones out there because we wanted the ability to drop different heights - see photo. We needed one higher so our truck can go under during winter.Very sturdy. We’d gotten other brands in the past they are all about the same. Some May costs a little more because there are extra hooks etc but we’ve never used those. My husband installed it himself without any help but certainly easier if you have a second set of hands.

Great Product
The 4'x8' rack will make a significant dent in your garage clutter. I installed it myself which took a while and certainly needs some planning but it was done in a day and looks great. The instruction manual was very clear - probably the best I've ever seen. The videos on their web site are also helpful. There was one issue with a FedEx bill for outstanding GST/PST from the border crossing that arrived later. This is typically included in the amazon.ca price so I e-mailed Safe Racks through the amazon link. They responded instantly and I had a refund for the amount owing the same afternoon. Great service!
