Great value!
Super sharp out of the box and it’s been great to use so far. The shape of the handle takes a little getting used to for cutting, it’s a smaller grip than I’m used to. But the knife works great and arrived with no issues out of the box. Have used it to cut fruits and veggies (including an entire watermelon) for about 5 meals now and still just as sharp as day one. Blade looks to be a decent quality steel. For the money, you can’t go wrong, it’s now my favorite knife!

Highly unimpressed
Here's the deal. The actual steel of the blade? Decent.Everything else?Garbage.I ordered one, and returned it for replacement thinking "Maybe that one was just defective".Second one arrived in a more protective shipping box so I was hopeful.Immediately, the condition was even worse the second time around with the blade coming loose from the handle right out of the box.Sadly unimpressed given my previous experience with knifes from this company.

Check for split Pakkawood handle
Overall, this is a pretty nice knife for the price, but you should carefully check the Pakkawood handle for cracks. I've had a couple with significant cracks and had to return them. The last one that I received also had a loose handle that allowed it to rock/rotate on the tang. The AUS-10 damascus model seems to have better QA with a G-10 handle that doesn't have gaps and a rivet that more securely attaches the handle to the tang.

Picky knife lover, loves this knife.
I've been a knife fan since I got my first pocketknife, but quickly learned to hate poor quality knives of any type. This one just feels quality, looks great, and holds its edge. My wife keeps putting in the dishwasher (STOP IT!) but a couple quick passes on a stone and it's good as new again. I would say it's as "dishwasher safe" as any knife... but no knife should, because the rattling around will dull if not damage the edge.Finish using, immediately wipe and rinse and back in the block.I gave it 4 stars for value because I'd definitely say it's overpriced for the quality pragmatically speaking... but if you want a fancy looking knife it's worth it.

PERFECT
These knives are as beautiful as they are sharp. Makes me want to show them off to everybody I know. Great knives that are affordable. What more could a cook wish for in a knife-affordable, pretty & sharp. I have several of these & love them all.

Handle came in cracked
I've had a nakiri Damascus tuo forever and wanted to add to my collection. I purchased the plain Jane kiritsuke chef knife the other day and my handle came in slightly cracked and uneven seating with the blade. My nakiri is perfect and I love it, but this knife is no good. Not good craftsmanship, not consistent with good products. Won't be using this brand In the kitchen at work any more.👎👨🍳

Dulled after after one onion. Bad packaging.
To try this knife out I did some fried rice tonight. First cut was great, second cut was. But as I was slicing this single onion I could feel it get harder to use. Day I got it and felt the sharpness dissipate lol also came lose in an Amazon box. Opened a bigger box to see the knife box open and knife under the two halves. Nothing to stop it from flopping around or opening like it did.

Poor Design and constrction
I wanted a Santoku 5.5" in the Phoenix line to match the rest of my knives however the only one available is in the Ring Series. I'm very disappointed with this knife. Yes it is sharp, seems to be holding and edge and the smaller size over my 7" works wonderfully but that is all I can say on the good side. The handle only fits the hand if you hold it like a hatchet and then it doesn't index to the blade, it does not fit the palm of the hand like the Phoenix series. The blade has a very square back edge with no bolster straight down from the handle to protect your finger when using a pinch grip, the blade edge comes all the way back so if your don't pay attention you can easily slice your finger in releasing your grip or moving or index finger to clear items from the blade. The back edge of the blade from the handle down to the blade edge has a very sharp square edge from machining and digs into your finger causing chafing and blistering when using a pinch grip this should be chamfered to reduce this. The back of the blade should have been angled forward away from the handle (like on the Pheonix series) to allow for a comfortable pinch grip hold. The Ring on the handle is loose and is turning after only 3 uses, the knife has never been submersed in water, wipe with damp towel and then dry. The handle to blade transition doesn't give a comfortable hold with the pinch grip and the handle being completely round does not allow you to index to the blade and twists in your hand if you hold it only by the handle. I'm well pleased with the Pheonix series but can't recommend the Ring series.

Rapport qualité-prix excellent.

Great Knife unless you are a professional chef or knife nut.
Sure the knife isn't an ergonomic gem as a pro chef knife but it's 30 bucks. Sure it doesn't hold an edge like an elite Japanese knife that costs at least 10 times as much. If you ding it up, get it reprofiled at a shop for five bucks. Just use a normal kitchen steel to keep it at 96% sharpness of a hard Japanese steel knife. A knife nut job is going to spend hours using wet stones on hard steel to pretend he is a blacksmith samurai from the middle ages to get those few extra cuts at optimal sharpness. This is an absolute steal of a knife even if it's dinged out of the box (AUS-8 is so easy to maintain and craps on non descript metal).

good blade, bad handle
This knife seems like a solid blade for the money, out of the box I was impressed with the balance and feel of the knife. The styling is nice and the ergonomics are good.BUT also out of the box the handle came with a split in it. Whether the handle material was improperly stabilized or improperly stored after manufacture the split is very disappointing.I would not recommend this knife just based on my and other reviewers experiences of getting a cracked/split/damaged handle. A good blade is useless if you can't hold it and use it!

Good value - not perfect
Knife feels amazing, tunes up pretty easy with ceramic sharpening rods, keeps a good edge for veggies and fruit. It’s a thin blade on purpose so it cuts awesome. My only complaint is the red accent piece behind the tang feels loose after 2 months, the handle is still solid though. It’s a great budget knife for someone wanting something different than a regular block set.
