Q: Can this be put in the ground without concrete?

I have 3 of these and looking to buy another. I bought a 2 foot piece of rebar, a 1/2 inch X 2 foot PVC pipe, and a 1 inch X 3 foot PVC pipe. Pound the rebar in the ground with rubber mallet, put the 1/2 inch PVC pipe over it, and then the 1 inch PVC pipe. The post of this unit is square and hollow. Slide it down over the rebar/PVC pipe "foundation", and it's really sturdy but definitely movable. All 3 of mine are installed that way!!

Q: Do you leave the connection to the original water source on or do you have to turn both on when you want to use it?

It depends on what you are using for a supply line. You can use a regular garden hose to supply water to this connection, in which case it may be left connected at both ends. OR, you may connect the supply end only when you want to use this remote faucet. If you use a hard supply line, e.g. copper or galvanized pipe, then the supply of water to the remote faucet would be 'live' at all times, unless there is a shut off valve at the supply end. Whichever installation you choose, if you live where temperatures will drop below freezing in winter, don't forget to drain the line, i.e. winterize it.

Q: Is this item lead-free?

There is some brass in it, so there is a small amount of lead.

Q: What is the measurement from spigot to bottom of square tubing?

From the spigot to the point where it’s driven into the ground is about 17 inches. The distance from the spigot to the top is 12 inches.
