V is for Vegan

I love these recipes
I love these recipes. Usually I don't buy cookbooks, because I can find recipes free online; but, this one was suggested by a friend and it doesn't disappoint. It is full of very creative, outside the box recipes that I have never seen anywhere else. I'm a great cook with solid basics in vegan cooking, but this book is the one I go to when I really want to shine!

V is for vibrant and vivacious
Kerstin Rodgers (aka MsMarmiteLover) is a popular vegan food blogger and professional chef. In "V is for Vegan", she presents a wide range of vegan recipes which vary from quick and simple snacks to complex dishes requiring considerable shopping and preparation time commitments. Her emphasis in selecting recipes for inclusion seems to be based mostly on flavour, with appearance also high up on the list; Kerstin is obviously on a mission to put the lie to the popular misconception that vegan food is necessarily both bland and brown. The author is also determined to reconnect her readers with what they eat through deliberately involving them more intensively in its preparation -- probably no bad thing in today's culture of "heat, eat and go!"The book is copiously illustrated but is hard on the eyes throughout, owing to the publishers opting to print every page with a different garish background colour against which the old fashioned typewriter and faux Letraset heading fonts stand out only poorly. Maybe this is another attempt to move the idea of veganism away from old notions of it mostly being for sandal-wearing hippies, and make it appear more vibrant and contemporary. And, I guess, sometimes tofu needs all the help it can get when it comes to image make-overs!Look beyond the garish presentation of the book, however, and you will find some delicious little (and some not so little) treasures lurking within these pages. Be warned, however, that you may have to hunt a little harder than usual for many of the ingredients.

If "V is for Vegan" were an album, it'd be punk rock all the way.
If "V is for Vegan" were an album, it'd be punk rock all the way. A book of vegan recipes that's not just for vegans, it's a saturated trip through the plant-based diaspora. The aesthetic and sensibility reminds us that veganism can be cool and edgy, and when astutely practiced draws from a multitude of culinary and geographic influences. I love the way the book is organized, with plenty of snacks and bites, reflecting that vegan eating isn't only about *the absence of animal product*, but rather a shift in the very format of how one eats throughout the days and years. It's presents a culinary worldview that's as honest and approachable as it is colorful, vibrant, and full of life.Recipes are easy to follow and photography is beautiful. This is a great addition to ANY cook's library.

no good
If you're looking for easy, quick vegan recipes, then this is not the book for you. Most of the recipes in this book are not appetizing. My all-time favorite vegan recipe book is Vegan with a Vengeance. It has great recipes which are easy and very tasty.

OK, nothing really new.
Some good recipes in here. Nothing really new. However the author then indulges in whitewashing with regards to her politics which she feels she needs to include.

Really great book for everyone needing a change in the diet.
You are Vegan? You want to try a healthier alternative to meat?My partner became vegan a few months ago and we browsed through book stores to find a good book giving us new ideas. This one caught our eyes, the pages are colourful (not a must) but the book also offers a lot of information in the beginning and next to each recipe some more details and a story behind, it's really interesting and gave us plenty of ideas how to start vegan cooking.

Unique recipes
Love the fact the author was quirky which reflected in the recipes plus she had fantastic reviews and won the Guild of Food Writers food blog plus other awards. Love the diversity of her recipes and the humour that goes with it. Great price too.

Great recipes. Shame about the type font!
Love the recipes. Type font doesn’t make for an easy read unfortunately.
