A Slow Start But Great Middle and End
THE STORY: Degan Grant is a gun for hire. When he agrees to do a favor for the US Marshall who saved his life, he finds himself searching out three wanted outlaws. When he starts his search looking for Max Dawson, wanted for murder and bank robbery, he is surprised to discover that Max is actually Maxine and that she claims to be innocent. He also discovers that his heart, that he believed immune, is taken by the sweet outlaw.OPINION: I didn't believe that I would like this book when I began it. I thought the story was slow to develop and I didn't feel engaged with Degan, who felt distant and aloof. That changed once Max and Degan encounter one another. Their romance is sparkling and their journey funny and sweet and completely engaging.Max is strong and yet intensely vulnerable. She is not damsel in distress. She has been taking care of herself in dangerous circumstances for years and yet has not become hard and jaded. She is smart and sneaky and a good match for Degan.Degan was distant and difficult to like in the beginning...but that is precisely who he is. He has built walls around himself to protect himself from pain. A quiet man who does what needs to be done and is fair and honorable, Degan is not effusive about his emotions or his thoughts. He is a good man and I ended up liking him tremendously as the book progressed.Once the story really started flowing, I was enthralled. The plot worked and everything felt balanced and proper. I especially liked how the romance was slowly developed and these two wary characters got to know one another and found out by the end that they were meant to be together.WORTH MENTIONING: I am hoping for more stories about the Callaghan brothers.FINAL DECISION: I ultimately really liked this book because I liked Degan who I found to be quiet and responsible and a good man. I also really liked how the relationship between Degan and Max developed. It felt natural and sweet.CONNECTED BOOKS: WILDFIRE IN HIS ARMS is connected with ONE HEART TO WIN although it can be easily read as a standalone.STAR RATING: I give this book 4.25 stars.

A must read.
Very good, much better than One Heart to Win (but you should read it, because the feud is mentioned many times.)I liked the way Degan's friend talked into becoming a bounty hunter/lawman. In this role Degan thought Max was a man. It was a surprise to find out she was a woman. Even though Max claimed she was innocent of the charges. All ways she tried to escape. Regan had to keep Max close to keep her from escaping again. When Degan takes Maxie virginity, he said we will get married. Max thought he said that because they slept together, and was still taking her to jail. After Max saves his life times several times, Degan begins to fall in love and believes her is innocent. Other lawman steal her away from 'reVan.I do not want to give the ending way. Does Degan go after Maxie, and clear up matter that she was charged with. Peacemaker is what they called him, but he make peace in her home town and his past. How can he retired from being a fast gun. READ the book and find out, it is a good read.

An okay cowboy book, but nothing compared to Lindsey's westerns
Johanna Lindsey's westerns are great and not your run of a mill cowboy romance story. However "Wildfire in his arms" disappoints It was an okay cowboy book that missed the usual Lindsey western touch. Let's start with the positives. No Fighting! Lindsey's latest novels often feature constant fighting between the couples. Often misrepresented as passion, it can make her novels childish and lack character development. This time the characters genuinely liked each other and seem to enjoy each other company. At the end, readers know and understand that they were meant to be together. Another positives is a likable female character, Maxine, who balances naivety, spunkiness, and excitement well. Degan, the male character, is Lindsey's mysterious western heroes. The novel was its best when it was just the two of them. What made it an okay novel was unfortunately the story line. Both Max and Degan are running away from home. Both have their reasons, but it becomes too complicated with each other trying to deal with their situation. It would have been fine with one character facing pursuers from home, but both made the plot too crazy and one story had to suffer. Degan's plot was old news and Lindsey did not try to make it less cheesy. Lindsey's plots have always been a little stretch but she makes up with passion. The book did not deliver, Compare to her other westerns, it took forever to seal the deal. I was half way in the book before I saw some serious passion between the couple. That's the problem with plot that require lots of explanation and lead ups. If you are looking for another Angel or Savage Thunder, this is not the book to go down memory lane.

Great western story of love and conflict.
This story had romance and the usual misunderstandings before the conclusion. It was a true western with the hero a gun slinger who killed when necessary but not as a villain. He is a bounty hunter who is taking a girl back home to stand trial for a killing she did not commit. She will be hung without trial when she is returned even though innocent. Will the hero release her or prove her innocence? It is written in a humorous style that has you rooting for both the hero and heronine to finally admit their feelings for each other. The way she finally maneuvers him into a real marriage at the end is classic western and heartfelt romance. This is one of those books you go back and reread just to enjoy the writing and story line.
