Avana Orthopedic Support Pillow Kind Bed Comfort System, Grey/Black

Absolutely love this pillow system. I bought this in preparation for shoulder surgery and could not be happier. I had my left shoulder done in 2012 and had to sleep on my sofa recliner for 6 months post-op. With my most recent right shoulder surgery, this pillow system allows me to sleep in the comfort of my own bedroom. I love how soft the material is and the ability to adjust all 4 pieces any way I want. I flipped the large back section piece around so the lumbar support is near my head. I am using the longer head cushion under my operative arm for support. You can slide the main back support section up and down on the rear piece to provide the desired angle. Very high quality design overall and each piece has a zipper to allow the covers to come off for washing. I would recommend anyone purchasing this product. I will continue to use this even after my recovery.

Initially I read all the reviews here and on the Avana site before purchasing. When doing so I took into consideration that it is for the most part a piece of medical equipment and therefore it will not work for everyone. It seems that for most it was beneficial .In my case I was immediately impressed. Taking it out of the bag was actually entertaining . It does in fact puff up within seconds so you can use it when you get it. I saw some complaints of smell, however I have a severely heightened sense of smell due to a neuro disability . I didn't smell more than the plastic bag. It dissipated quickly.The built in lumbar support was too high for me , I'm short and getting shorter. I solved that easily by turning the large piece around with the lumbar to the top. It makes a very comfortable neck rest for me. You can slide the back rest on the wedge to the desired height. Depending on my need I can either sit up fairly straight or recline . When reclined I turn the leg wedge around with the longer slope toward me it forms a cradle of sorts. I've found that the pillow works better as a lumbar support for me due to the fact that I use this in reverse.The foam is firm but not hard , I find it very comfortable even with my chronic pain. The cover is very soft it doesn't rub sensitive skin. I have a double bed, it still leaves room for another adult to sit next to it. I do tend to use pillows to support my arms but that's a personal preference.Also for sleeping I remove the support wedge using the back rest as a slight incline to help with my breathing and prevent snoring. I'm willing to answer sensible questions pertaining to my use of this product. Thank you

I agree with the most recent one star review; certainly not the support and comfort you want to recover post surgery. Brookstone supplies the product and won't provide a return shipping label so the customer gets stuck with the cost. Also, the foam is machine compressed upon arrival but on return you need to ship in a huge container to the manufacturer in Georgia. BEWARE!

I have tried stacks of pillows, wedges, reading pillows, and more. When I saw the Avana Kind set, I was just a little leery, because I have very particular needs, and wasn’t sure if this set was finally going to take care of my problems. I set it up today, and it took all of 10 seconds for me to know that I had made the right choice! It will allow me to sit up and read or use my computer perfectly. For the nights when my respiratory or digestive system tells me to sleep sitting up, the adaptability of this set will allow me to configure it so that I can sleep fairly upright in comfort. Happy buyer!

This pillow set is terrible. It stained my $2000 bed frame I just bought within the last 6 months! It also damaged a dining room chair that the pillow was sitting on. You should warm your customers the pillows bleed onto the furniture it’s placed on. My wife and I are so angry.

OMG! This is the greatest pillow set up ever!!! I’ve had 3 back surgeries (fused at L1-2) and I have lots of difficulty sleeping. This pillow adjusts to so many different positions so it is very easy to find a comfortable sleeping position. (Holds it’s position all night long) I highly recommend this pillow set up. We’ve had a Tempur-pedic bed for eight years now and we love it but... for the last six months, I have had a lot of difficulty sleeping because of back pain. We were about to spend $8500 for an adjustable sleep number bed and I decided to try this first. So glad I waited because this pillow system is amazing. I may order another one for my wife’s side of the bed because it’s great for watching TV while in the bed as well!

This pillow set is awesome. I work from home for part of the week and am taking college classes online, so I use my computer in bed every day. Since I spend so much time trying to sit up and work, I got this to lean against and it is perfect. I actually use the knee rest as a laptop rest and have the laptop sitting on it on my lap. It is also great for watching tv, which is at the foot of the bed. I have fallen asleep while propped up on it and I love how it's adjustable and completely customizable so I can find the most comfortable angle to sit or lay in. I haven't had a head cold since I got this but I know it will be great for those nights I need to sleep propped up.

I suffer from sinus infections and this great when I want to sit up in bed to sleep. For people sensitive to foam smells this had no odor at all. Covers easy to wash.

The product is comfortable once you have it configured to your requirements. Certainly better than arranging pillows.One criticism is that it has left a black mark on the wall. It seems to have rubbed the paint off. If I had known I would have put a towel or rug on it as a buffer.
