Great price

I've had mine for several years, and it's been nothing but a pain. For my first unit, the power button broke. That took a major hassle to get the unit replaced. My replacement unit has had an intermittant issue where when the unit is powered on, the touchscreen will not function. Bendix would not take the unit back. I found that I could pull the battery for a few hours to several days, and then the screen would work again. I took a major trip to Disneyland recently. I found the front panel locked up when I pulled it out to get ready for the trip. I tried for a month to get the unit to work with no luck. It's now an expensive paperweight.A friend of mine who also bought a unit at the same time said his screen went black several months ago, and now he uses a Garmin.Don't get me wrong, when it works, it's an excellent unit. However, for the light use I've put mine through, it should have lasted for years. Save the money and buy something else.

I got mine as a Christmas present in 2012. It was advertised as new unopened package. It was unopened but the external antenna was missing. When I contacted the seller, he said he had a lot of complaints about the antenna missing and thought the advertisement was misleading. The contents list clearly states the antenna is include with the unit. Honeywell customer service says to contact the seller. The only one getting screwed over is me. No more Honeywell for me, "buy a Garmin."

Bendix_King has always provided a good product. In this case, the GPS is not as user friendly as I would expect. The aircraft mounting bracket could cause some control wheel impediment. The most disappointing was a requirement to pay for the first data upgrade. Our unit must have been on the shelf for a year because the data is dated 4/10/2010. I have owned 4 prior GPS systems and I might suggest continue shopping rather than buy this unit.GPS UserBought from Amazon.

I bought my unit last Feb 2012. I updated the firmware and also used the free DB update from the website. Took me some time to figure it out. Also, at first I realized there was a problem with the GoDrive part of the unit, it showed an error message that made it impossible to access this feature. Then, doing some research on the web, was able to get hold of a support center for the product. The response was prompt, efficient too. The problem was a defect on the SD Card, so they sent free of charge a new SD card. It then worked fine and I was able to experiment a bit the GoDrive function, but I wasnt really interested on that part, maybe as en extra value on my unit, which was to get a flight GPS for VFR operation, as navigational support.Too bad though that I spent the free DB update on the defective SD card, hmmm. So far I have used the unit in flight a few times, and I must say its great to have it in the cockpit, as navigation support and enhancing my situational awareness! I can enter waypoints and create flight plans, and the terrain feature is absolutely invaluable, so is the miniPFD screen I can access in flight. Regarding the accesories, I must say it comes nicely equipped, being the only negative comment about the suction cup, that falls off the windshield of the car and the aircraft too. So I will be trying the yoke mount instead in flight. I do training flights in Costa Rica, so I dont have access to the weather features of the unit, but still, makes it a great value for the money. I am very satisfied with my purchase, and look forward to many years of reliable operation of it. I am a private pilot and almost ready to get my IFR rating. So far the battery duration has not been an issue, the unit comes with different brightness settings so you can manage the battery life, also, it comes with a 12v charger that can be connected to the aircraft to provide charging. I would definitely recommend this product to any student pilot or aviation enthusiasts alike.

Working as expected

Got mine Feb 2011. It had an old database and Bendix King gave me a free update - no hassles. I tried two other units Quadra and iFly. AV8OR hand held was the best choice - least problems and most intuitive. Features important to me: Brighter screen, NMEA serial output for driving autopilots, terrain Vertical Profile View, faster satellite acquisition, easy to add standard WxWorx receiver.I never use a GPS yoke mount. I mounted it on the panel for better and steadier touch control. Or you can use the suction cup mount to attach to aircraft windscreen. But I think that a cheap Nuvi suction mount is better geometry. With little RTV silicon adhesive its easy to attach the Nuvi bracket to the AV8OR holding bracket - just cut the Nuvi bracket excess off.I find the car navigation feature irrelevant on all those aviation handhelds. Why take a $600+ unit that could be stolen when a $99 car GPSs are much better at it - and navigation is frequently built into newer cars.

An impressive, high tech tool. Well worth the investment.
