Nice and No Nonsense
Nice, and no nonsense. I spent like 4 hours browsing cutting boards on Amazon because I'm picky. I wanted a non-gimmicky hygienic functional board for cutting on. Specifically, I hate things like gutters, handles, little rubber feet, and anything else that could collect and harbor germs. This is such a board. It's a board. You can cut on both sides, it's a perfect size, and it's wooden. I have read somewhere that wood is actually better than plastic for your knives, and for sanitation, and bamboo is considered a good choice for many reasons. I do like the maple boards, but they are relatively expensive. You can look this up on the Ikea site and see that it is about half the price, but I got free shipping through Amazon, and I don't have an Ikea nearby.I have read on some reviews that their bamboo boards were somewhat rough upon arrival, so I wasn't surprised that this one was. I just sanded it lightly with some fine-grit (240-ish) sandpaper before oiling. I use Spectrum Naturals Organic Refined Sunflower Oil, High Heat, 16 oz for the oil, which I bought locally. I don't like the idea of using mineral oil in my food prep, and I have found that this oil doesn't get sticky or rancid like some other vegetable oils. I applied the oil once a day for 3 days, and let it soak in between applications. I think if you wanted a solvent to get it to soak in faster, you could mix in some lemon oil, but it works fine without it if you have the time. I also use this same oil on my wooden knife handles and my wooden pepper grinder, etc. You can reapply the oil any time the wood starts to look a little dry. This review and advice also applies to the other board I bought: Totally Bamboo Martinique, Bamboo Cutting Board . I bought two so I could have one for meat and one for veg, but I really have four, since they are both usable on both sides. The Martinique board is very pretty, and a different, but still a good, size.

I love these cutting boards
I love these cutting boards. I usually buy a new one every 6 months to a year. Good size and quality board.

it'll be an easy fix.
Cracked corner. I'll need to glue the hell out of it to prevent fraying. But it's IKEA, so, you know, it'll be an easy fix.

A Great Larger Size that Works as an Over-the-Sink Cutting Board!
This cutting board is generously sized and well-constructed. I bought it to use over my sink, a standard (not Ikea) aluminum one with a grooved lip around its edge. This cutting board rests perfectly within the lip of the sink and works as large, sturdy over-sink cutting board. Note that the board is cut on a slant at the long edges so it has two length measurements: 17 3/4" on one side and 17 1/2" on the other... the short side of the board rests really well in the lip over my sink, the flip side is just a little long. I'd suggest measuring your sink before buying if you're planning on using the board in this way. As far as long as long-term durability goes, in my experience an occasional wipe with mineral oil and immediately drying when wet keeps a decent cutting board in working order for many years (water can warp and separate glued wood).
