Q: What is the advantage of a silicone cover vs 100% cotton?

Cotton cover is horrible for moving material around (doesn't slide) AND it wrinkles underneath over time!!

Q: How thick is the padding please?

I think it's about 1/4" thick. I left the older padding on the board, so it's nice and thick. The silicone coating is very smooth and the iron glides over it easily. I have some metal ironing board hooks that grab the cover from underneath, so cut off the white straps. It now fits very tight.

Q: Is the best way to measure for the correct size of the cover, edge to edge without taking into account the turning over on the side?

I measured edge to edge, fits good.
