Quick and easy to use
Quick and easy to use and clean. Definitely an improvement over using my sieve. I took advice here to keep water level low and place an ice cube or two on the surface of this device to prevent batter from cooking on and sticking. Worked perfectly and made clean up a breeze. Highly recommend.

... I haven't loaded review twice but this is a great one-tasker kitchen item
New to amazon reviews - hope I haven't loaded review twice but this is a great one-tasker kitchen item. Well made, all metal including the handle that is solidly attached to perforated base. Hopper slides smoothly and easily and does great job pushing dough through appropriately sized hole into pot of boiling/simmering water. No problem with handle getting to hot to hold, it does have a rubberized overlay on the metal. Had some doubts about ordering this but very glad I did as it speeds up spaetzle making. Clean up was very easy as hopper completely slides out of base so there are two separate pieces that cleaned up without hassle by hand with soapy water. Have made spaetzle a few times before using two different colanders and a perforated spoon that were on hand with varying degrees of mess and success and for me (and my equipment) this was much easier and quicker.

Fantastic design works perfectly and will last forever.
Before this purchase, I used one of those rectangular spätzle makers with a sliding square reservoir. I think it was invented by the Spanish Inquisition - pure torture. This unit works flawlessly, producing perfect dumplings. Easy to clean too. I had no issues with the dough cooking on the top. It works so quickly with the included spreader that all the dough is through the holes in less than a minute. I can't comment on the handles getting too hot to hold since I wore one hot mitt to hold a handle down against the pot while scraping with the other. But again, it works so quickly, I doubt the metal would get too hot to touch. Excellent product that will last a lifetime.

Why did I wait so long to get one?
I feel like a fool for trying to stick it out making spaetzle with a colander or grater. What was I thinking? Oh sure, I'll do it the old-fashioned way, I told myself. Don't buy any unitaskers, I scolded at myself. Pfah! I should not have listened to myself. There are two types of spaetzle makers that I've seen: this one and the round flat one. I chose this one at the flip of a coin. I chose this over the plastic one because this one doesn't have a removable handle and I felt it was more secure. I'm tempted to buy the flat round spaetzle maker and see which I like better. But no matter what, this thing has changed my life. There are a few issues with this one. The batter can get under the slidey thing and wants to push out the end in large lumps, but that tended to happen only near the end of the bowl. It can also still be a bit messy. The smaller surface area means being more careful about how much you put on there at a time. It takes a little finagling to find the right procedure. You should also hose it off immediately after you're done using it so the batter doesn't get into teensy tiny crevices and turn into glue. Otherwise, it's easy to clean both by hand and in the dishwasher.Despite that, it has completely changed my spaetzle game. Before, I had to press the batter into a colander or grater with a spoon and periodically put it down to scoop out the cooked spaetzle. I had to have a place near the stove I could set everything down, then wash off my hands (because they always got messy), then scoop out the cooked spaetzle, then go back to pressing the batter, which has dribbled all over the stove. It could take up to 20 minutes and the longer it took, the more impatient I got, and the more dribbles went everywhere. On top of that, the holes in the colander or grater weren't the right size, so I would often wind up with what looked like porridge. With this spaetzle maker, it took five minutes or less and all the spaetzle was done at the same time. Just pour, zip, pour, zip until you're done. Makes perfect-sized spaetzle every time, except that one time when I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing and made the batter way too thin, but even that was better than if I had done it on a colander.Seriously, if you're still using the spoon-and-colander approach, stop and get a spaetzle maker. Doesn't have to be this one, just get one.

Amazing tool
I'm so glad I got this tool. It makes "halušky" and "bryndzové halušky" in a jiffy. Super easy to use and soooo fast. I was debating between this type and the one that slides back and forth but I thought this would be easier to clean. I was right. I did use a sturdier silicone spatula instead of the scraper it came with so I can't comment on how the spatula performs but the actual spaetzle maker is amazing. Highly recommended 👌!

Okish
It does what it's supposed to do I guess. But the wholes are getting constantly plugged and it's a huge mess. I stopped half way through and used the cutting board technique that was faster and cleaner.

I am in love!!
One of my favorite dishes is pork in a mushroom cream sauce with spaetzel. I made spaetzel for the first time last year because I had a hard time finding it in stores. I had a very traumatizing first time making it from scratch. I made a huge mess. This spaetzel maker makes the experience so less stressful. I now no longer buy from the store and just make myself. This product make making spaetzel easy, painless, quick and a less mess process for me. Love it and refuse to be parted from it.

Perfect for making spaetzle (or Hungarian nokedli) at home
Works great over an approriately-sized pot, and cleans up well with warm water and soap. I'm a bit of a novice spaetzle maker but have seen it being made enough to know that a good recipe makes the difference, and this seems to make decently-formed noodles. The scraper works well.
