Central Tools3D101 0 to 1 Inch Dial Indicator Set with Magnetic Base

I purchased this dial indicator 2 years ago knowing that one day I would need it. This is a P.O.S. Magnetic base is very weak. Then I started to put it together to measure the lift of my cam. I discovered that the holes for the dial indicator to attach through were too small. So I drilled it to enlarge the diameter so that I could attach the indicator. That worked just fine but not until I had broken the hold-down knob trying to tighten the clamp because it kept spinning due to the slip yolk being at it's limit. I finally get that all together and while trying to set up the dial indicator itself, it comes apart.

Central makes a good dial indicator. My only gripe is that the cross shaft is so short.Its not as versatile. Still well made and works perfectly. The snugs have plastic-handle tighteners.with a steel nutsert in them. Should be OK but kind of chincy.Then again,I only paid: $42.80.

I wish the magnetic base was a bit nicer, bit I really can't complain much for the price. It's really a must-have for DIY mechanics because you can use it for so many things.

The magnet on the base is so weak the entire assembly will topple over if the arm is extended too far. The way the dial indicator mounts to the assembly is not ideal.
